Readynas 104 drops out when copying to it
I have a readynas 104 configured with four 4tb drives in raid 5. I've managed to copy about 6tb onto the device without issue but now whenever I go to copy something onto the box, lets say a single 4gb file, it starts out ok and will copy around 1gb of the file at 31MB/second but then the connection drops out completely and I get an error message saying:
There is a problem accessing Z:\....
Make sure you are connected to the network and try again.
Now I've obviously mapped drive Z: to the box and when I say it drops out, I can still ping it's IP address. I have tried both NIC's with different cables and in different ports on the router with exactly the same result every time. I am running two other buffalo NAS boxes off the same router and they are working fine.
I can view the files etc over readycloud and check it's performance without problem and in reasonable time, but then as soon as I copy a file over in explorer, readycloud all but freezes and wont let you navigate through the various screens. And once I try to copy a file across I can still view files and directories on the box in explorer, albeit it takes about 30 seconds or so to load each directory which is ridiculous, but before attempting to copy each directory will load almost instantly as you would expect.
Any ideas?

- satz404AspirantYes, the "readynasd" daemon is based on BTRFS advanced function (snapshot and compression).
But you can replace the whole gui with webmin, like i did on my old Netgear Stora!
For resizing ext4 you need to use resize2fs and parted (ATTENTION: EXPERT ONLY!!!!!)
I've used EXT4, but you can use XFS o ZFS (apt-get is your friend!) - alexk2013AspirantHi,
Another ....funny story.
One of the 3 RN-104 (one headache was not enough), with 4x3tb with 54% free, became unresponsive. Had to unplug it! :(
Luckily data are there, and no re-syncing ........ :)
Looking forward for 6.1.5 - Same issue here.
And same answer from support : wait, and if you are not happy with a product that doesn't work(because software is buggy] go get a refund.
They say that this is normal for them...
Thanks Netgear! :-s - I have the same problem, I have 2x4TB and 2x2TB in my Readynas 104. Hangs and have to unplug it. Annoying!!

Disabling the virus scanner did the trick for me.david8704 wrote: I have the same problem, I have 2x4TB and 2x2TB in my Readynas 104. Hangs and have to unplug it. Really they should provide the reason why it behave this way (as I need to assess it whether it should be used in a "real world" environment) and to avoid it in case after factory reset it hit the same problem again. - perkijAspirant

NO IT DIDN'T! You're missing the point... there is no fix without changing from BTRFS. There is a fundamental problem in the code, until it is fixed (and they are saying that will happen in the next firmware release, but don't forget some people have been waiting 6 MONTHS or more for this) your box WILL FAIL to copy to and from it at some point. - perkijAspirant

You haven't worked it out already from this post... AVOID AVOID AVOID. This product is not suitable in any world let alone a real one. IT DOES NOT WORK AND WILL FAIL. You will also note from a comment from someone in the know on here, that IF and WHEN they do fix it with the next firmware, YOU will HAVE to do yet ANOTHER firmware reset in order to fix it! - NessiAspirantThere is an option for a checksum at the data volume. (System -> Volumes -> Data -> Summary -> Checksum).
After setting it to on, my NAS stucks much more often. So is it better to disable this option ?
Will it take 3 days again to rebuild the raid again ? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou can uncheck it and then click ok. It will not rebuild RAID.
