Readynas Duo V1 intermittent issues
Hello,
I've had my ReadyNAS Duo V1 (RND2175) for about 5 years now [current Raidiator = 4.1.14, current Raidar = 4.3.8], which has been working perfectly until recently, when I started to receive experience the following symptoms, which may or may not be related to one another. Please help!
1. In Raidar, the Duo is detected but "Setup" is greyed out. In addition, only a "--" is shown in the "I" (information?) column. I used to be able to click on "Setup" to go to the web interface, and the "I" column used to say something (I'm not sure of the exact verbage) that indicated everything was normal.
2. In Windows Explorer, after clicking on my mapped Duo share folder, I either receive 1) an Restoring Network Connections error (which says the connection has not been restored), 2) am able to enter my username and password, but receive an error message saying the username and password is incorrect, or 3) am able to successfully enter my username and password. I am not able to correlate which outcome I receive to any sort of event (i.e. reboot of my PC while Duo is on or off, etc.)
3) The Duo intermittently responds to web interface commands, such as shutting down and rebooting. During the times that it is unresponsive, I still receive the web interface confirmation that, for example, a volume scan or quotas will be fixed on the next boot up; however, the Duo does not reboot.
4) The Duo intermittently follows the Power Timer schedule, where I have it set to power off at 2am and then power on at 6am. I check the logs only to find that it sometimes never powered down.
5) I'm not sure if this is the cause or just another symptom, but I receive the following log about my second hard disk. I've also copied the SMART Information, which I'm not sure how to interpret
"Disk 2 did not pass SMART self-assessment test. Please replace this disk as soon as possible. Growing SMART errors indicate a disk that may fail soon. If the errors continue to increase, you should be prepared to replace the disk."

Do you have a backup?
Are you using X-RAID or a different RAID level? - tekngolongAspirantHello,
I am using X-RAID. I tried removing Disk 2, but the Duo still has the same behavior. Actually, upon removing Disk 2, the Disk 2 light in Raidar continuously blinks - I understand this is normal if it was expecting a second hard drive, but is there a setting that must be changed if you want to operate with only one hard drive? In any case, please advise on the intermittent issues persisting despite having removed Disk 2. Thanks! - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserHave you backup up the data on the duo?
- tekngolongAspirantHi,
No, I have not backed up the data because I presume Disk 1 is still good. I was hoping the fix for the various issues would not involve doing a factory reset, so I wouldn't have to go and purchase an external USB hard drive for backup. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI would definitely do a backup right away.
- tekngolongAspirantI will try to do a backup. In the meantime, is there a way to fix my original issues?
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserI'd do a backup before I went any further.
What SMART stats are you seeing on the remaining disk? - tekngolongAspirantHere are the SMART stats for DISK1:

Thu Feb 26 21:20:19 PST 2015 System is up. - tekngolongAspirantI'm at a point where the DISK1 light is constantly blinking and Frontview says DISK1 is DEAD. Any ideas?
