ReadyNAS Duo
The subject is in accordance with the Unit Label, but I am advised by Technical Support that from the serial # submitted it is in fact v1 !! Firstly I must say that I am extremely frustrated by the total lack of support from Netgear. I have been fortunate in having a son who has passed his 4 year old, little used unit, to me as a gift. After connection and installation, I was looking forward to setting up, but to no avail. The RAIDAR would not accept the password previously used. I can only assume due to IP differences. I then have carried out the OS Reinstall, with out any luck.Three, time consuming telcons, two emails from Tech Support, exchange of proof of purchase, I am finally advised that they, TS," do not support to second hand devices , as they consider them refurbished" !!!
I am amazed that Netgear are still in business, and surely customers of organizations like Ebay should be aware of these imposed limitations. If anyone can advise me how to get up and running I will be more than willing to donate to a nominated charity.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWell, what you are describing is the normal frontview log on screen. What is wrong is that it isn't accepting your log on. What browser are you using?
- vandermerweMaster2trees, did you confirm that you have a v1?
The default passŵord for the v1 is netgear1, for the v2 it is password.
I'll assume you have a v1, I'd suggest you factory default the unit:
http://www.readynas.com/download/docume ... 0Nov11.pdf
It's described on pages 15-16 of the manual(link above)
When you factory default the unit will lose its fixed IP address and will try to obtain an ip,address from a dhcp server or will set an IP address of 192.168.168.168. You will need to consider this when reconnecting to the NAS. - StephenBGuru - Experienced Userverdermerwe - in the first post OP confirms he has a V1. He was unable to complete an OS reinstall, but, later on wiped the the disks and reinserted them- which does a factory reset. He is connecting to frontview, but his log on is being rejected. His PC IP address is consistent with the address the NAS is using.
I am thinking that the next step is for 2trees to tell us what browser he is using, and also what version of firmware RAIDar is reporting for the NAS. I am also thinking that he should get the original system password from his son, since it is possible that he did not actually wipe the disks. - vandermerweMasterYes he suggested it was probably a v1, just checking that he might have followed the guidance you posted on this.
It seemed that for some reason, despite the fact that there should have been a factory default process, there hadn't been. Are you suggesting that there is a difference between factory default by inserting blank disks and one done using the boot menu?
I thought that if the unit had actually done a factory default he should have lost its network settings ( it would have reverted to dhcp), it didn't seem that it had. This led me to believe that the password would not have been reset either. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserA factory reset has the same result, whether you achieve it by wiping the disks and reinserting, or by the front panel.
I am seeing a couple of possibilities still
(a) If the firmware is very old, it might not be compatible with the newer browser. The firmware version also confirms the NAS platform type.
(b) If he removed/wiped/replaced the disks one at a time, with the unit running, then he might not have done a reset - the unit would have resynced instead.
(c) He also might not have actually wiped the disks - it is not commonly done after all.
(d) something else altogether...
(b) and (c) would of course mean that the original admin password is still in force.
