ReadyNV: Can´t get out the Tray...
Hi Folks,
seems to me i´m stupid. Due to a diskfailure i like to replace a HardDisk#2. But I can´t get the Tray out. Tried to push the Button and tried to do it with a paper clip. No latch comes out. It don´t even moves for one inch.
Any Trick or Idea?
Thanx!

- blainegAspirantAll four of mine were jamming, and I found this thread after I was able to get them working. (oh well.)
My fix was to use a little silicone spray lube to get them to free up.
I took one of the plastic fronts off to figure out how the latch worked, and once I figured out where the lubrication was needed, I was able to fix the other three without disassembly. The real trick was being gentle enough on the spray can's pushbutton, so I didn't drown the latches in silicone and make a big mess. - jotap_66AspirantHi:
I have just returned a Duo 2150 to my dealer due to this problem. I received this morning and an hour later the Duo returned to my dealer. Is this normal? Or this is not normal.
With many thanks in advance
JP - wesrick1AspirantI just noticed that both of mine are sticking as well.
I thought I had the lock on.. But, sure enough, it was just sticky trays. Pretty frustrating.
Can't wait to hear when the new trays are ready, I'll pounce on them immediately. - jotap_66Aspirant

Well, I have just received a new Duo 2150 and this works OK. Are the new trays free?
JP - ChrisdAspirantHad exactly the same problem on all drives of my NV+. The paper clip trick worked fine but none of the buttons will operate properly anymore. I agree, it looks like a definite design defect. It's a shame for a product that is otherwise excellent....
- OzewolfAspirantHas Anyone got the new trays yet Oct 08 someone said they were working on them for replacement.
If so how who where do I get them replaced.
They are Still selling new ones with FAULTY drive Trays :) - IdlemindAspirantI was able to fix mine (after figuring out how to get it out in the first place) using some Fader spray (i use it on my DJ Mixers)

The spray is the best bet... its plastic friendly as well.. but I'd use a q-tip or something.. - jaime1AspirantFYI: If you want a more permanent fix you can take the tray apart and glue the little piece to the button. Yes this seems odd, but because that little piece keeps moving it prevents the button from working correctly. I used a pen to add a bit of fiberglass resin. Yes, this will be permanent and then I had to just file the sides a tiny bit because I got a bit more on some, but after that it just takes a bit of a push to take them out. I may have a little more resin on one or two, but it's workable. So next time you actually push the button they work fine. If you use any other type of glue, I can't say how long that will stay, but I know that the fiberglass resin mixed with the hardener of course works permanently. I just got tired of running into that problem every time I tried to clean the nas. And the paper clip or pin trick still works if you really need to go that route. IF the jedis let me add pictures I can upload the pictures of what I did. As of now I can't upload any pictures. It would save a ton of time if we can get pictures uploaded.
Okay I finally got these pictures on something so here is what I'm talking about.
http://picasaweb.google.com/jaimenow/Trays# - thevinnAspirantI have two ReadyNAS and never before have I had to remove a drive, the units are a couple of years old. I thought i would vacuum out all the dust for once. So I went to remove the drives.
Of course, all 8 trays were stuck due to the lock problem.
I kept pressing, trying to press hard, etc.. but what finally got them open was I got pissed and I said f--k this and took a screwdriver to it good and hard, pried that latch right off and thats when it popped open.
The moral of the story? Don't be a wuss, get that thing open like a MAN - SHS_Aspirant
jrabbit wrote: Just wanted to update you guys on the official position from NETGEAR. I just got off the phone with them and they claim that their engineers are working on a redesign of the Duo/NV+ drive trays. They wouldn't give me an exact time frame for the release of these new trays however...
Bumping this for an update, as today was the first time I've touched the trays in 2.5 years (upgrading 1TB HDDs to 2TB ones :P)... low and behold, all 4 have seized solid where even using a pushpin it took some effort to "pop" the latch... I want new improved trays!
