Reallocated sector count has increased with each startup
I don't know what this means nor how to fix it.
I bought the Readynas Ultra 2 about a year ago. The power supply failed so had the main unit (kept the original disks) swapped for a refurbished unit under warranty RMA.
Since then I get the following messages in the log with the yellow blicking warnings that come with it:

Tue Apr 24 04:00:06 CEST 2012 Reallocated sector count has increased in the last day. Disk 1: Previous count: 431 Current count: 432 Growing SMART errors indicate a disk that may fail soon. If the errors continue to increase, you should be prepared to replace the disk.

Sat Apr 21 13:33:49 CEST 2012 Reallocated sector count has increased in the last day. Disk 1: Previous count: 430 Current count: 431 Growing SMART errors indicate a disk that may fail soon. If the errors continue to increase, you should be prepared to replace the disk.
Before I send it under a new RMA, maybe someone can help to figure out what to do.
For extra info:
With the previous unit, the disks worked normal. I now have only one of the 2 disks in the unit, tried each in a single setup and a paired setup, but the issue remained in each case. So my guess is that it's not the disks. I also tried a new factory reset and upgraded to latest firmware.
What to do, what to do...?

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserWhat this says is that disk 1 has gone bad, so you need to replace it.
Sectors are reallocated by the drive firmware, not the NAS - so this is not something the NAS is responsible for. 432 is well above the failure threshold.
The disk itself is likely still under the manufacturer warranty, though you would get a refurbished model which might not be on the HCL. One option is to buy a new one, and use the refurbished drive for a spare.
BTW, disk scrubbing requires both disks are installed - which is why it is cancelled when you only have one plugged in. - xecuternlAspirantI understand your response, but as said, tried different setups with the different disks as per my previous post. Both disks suddenly fail simultaniously and in combination with the 'new' nas unit? My guess is that there is something wrong with the nas, not the disks. I'll see if I can get my hands on a couple of other disks to rule the disk failure out.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced User(a) disk 1 is certainly failing and should have been replaced months ago (430 reallocated sectors in April!). Reallocated sectors cannot be created by any NAS failure.
(b) the only failure I see in your posts is that the volume is degraded (with the side effect that scrubbing is skipped). The volume of course remains degraded/non-redundant even if you remove a drive. The only way to fix it is to replace the failing drive and resync. You haven't given us any reason to think the other drive has failed. Are there other failures that you are seeing? Are the SMART+ stats on the other disk concerning?
