Resetting to factory defaults

A newbie set of questions, apologies for that.

I've managed to lock myself out of my Readynas Duo. I've forgottent the admin password and had the admit email account t set as my old work address. So I can't use the password recovery feature described in the user guide. So I think the only option I have is to reset to factory defaults.

If I rest to factory defaults the data on the NASdrives is safe right? It's purely the NAS setup settings that get touched. Is that right?

Thanks in advance.

  • NO

A factory default will wipe the disks of all data and reinstall the OS and reset the configuration and settings to the original.

What you want is the OS reinstall, which will not affect data, it just reinstalls the Operating System and resets the configuration and settings to the original. The password will be set back to netgear1 and the password recovery feature will be set back to blank.
  • Thanks guys, glad I asked. So basically on a readynas duo I hold the reset button for 5 seconds and it resets FW only?

The OS/firmware re-install: reinstalls the firmware and does some other things like reset 'admin' (Frontview) password and some network settings (i.e. get IP address via DHCP).

    Data remains intact.

To do an OS Re-install on the Duo (v1):
    1. Power down NAS unit
    2. Press and hold reset button
    3. Turn NAS on
    4. Release reset button after about 5 seconds (first blink of disk LEDs).
