Slow transfer speed and way to much bugs..

Hello

Im new with ReadyNas, but been using it for sometime now tho :)

Ive got loads of bugs so far and the rescan for ReadyDLNA has been bugging constantly and now it's totally not working, from showing (null) which disapeared, thank god, to now not even finishing the scan and making it totally USELESS.

And the remote addon is kinda wtf, it's creating a new access area and I can't get to the shares I'm using on the NAS. -.-

But enough of that, I was wondering if the ReadyNAS Ultra 4 bay is supposed to have like 10 Mb/s transfer on every type of files? From small files to large and such, same rediculous low speed... (taking hours to move HD movies etc.)

Im using 4x Seagate Barracude 2TB Green ST2000DL003 and far as I know it's on the compatible list.

Does the X-Raid 2 really work that bad with 5900 rpm disks or is it just supposed to be that way with that type of raid array?

And yes, I've checked the Smart stats and no errors and the disks, they are new (ordered them with the NAS).
Im using Gigabit Ethernet to, router/switches supports it and my pc.

Does it really help to check if Cat.6 really makes the big differance as I haven't really experienced THAT much of a differance when testet it before.

I hope I can get some answers, because I'm getting really tired of this and can anyone help me with that DLNA bug because now I gotta use Nero Media Home as backup since got that one since back in the day,
and always work and never bugs but costs money (not much, anyways worth it)
Im not bragging, but the feeling this was the biggest mistake I've bought so far is growing..

P.S I'm not short minded or giving up easily, so I'm open to everything that helps and might work!

Sincerley,

NewL1fe

Are you seeing any errors in the SMART stats under disk health? What about the ethernet stats under network interfaces?

All the 4 drives shows the same, and zero errors so far,
this is disk 1, (all 4 showing the same)

I can't really spot anything wrong, tried unchecking jumbo frames close to hundreds of times now with either one of the ports active or both, lowering to 1500 MTU didnt help just lowered the speed from 10 Mb/s to average 7, max 9 Mb/s :S
  • does it help if I upload the upnp-av.log file or is that ment for the DLNA section?

the list is very long though. From what I can see seems like the entire database is the problem and the debuging isn't working -.-

Btw I was also wondering, is it really bad to download from my pc with bittorrent directly to the nas?
then the entire thing is damaged? :(

Gawd, this is really annoying lol, Im not an expert on coding or even reading between the lines -.-

The Ethernet status is 100 Mbit / Full-Duplex, MTU 9000 with static IP assigned.
You are not running gigabit ethernet . Assuming there is no typo in the quote, 10 Mbyte is a good speed. You should keep jumbo frames off, as they do not work with 100 mbit ethernet.

BTW, your other stats look fine.

Can you tell us more about your switches and routers (giving model numbers and connection information)?

True, the NAS only do 100 Mb/s Ethernet. My bad. (but 10 mbs, when reading some other topics that they pushed it to 70-90 Mbs makes me feel sad about 10 Mbs)

The Router is Linksys WRT120N both NAS ports connected to, My pc is also connected to the router.
The Switch is Cisco Small Buisness 1000-08, Ive connected my Samsung smart TV, PS3 and other pcs to that one.
But I connected both the NAS and my pc to the router and still pretty crap speed as I said earlier, 10 Mbs.

Not really sure, but seems like I gotta live it -.- my biggest and most annoying problem now is the DLNA not working and have to move all my files out cus I dont wanna enable SSH root thingie since then the support wont help me, how great.

You should be getting more than 10 megabits. Are you sure you aren't confusing megabits and megabytes?

If your switch is the SG100D-08, then it is gigabit, Your WRT120N router is a fast ethernet (100 mbits) device. You will get better results if you connect the NAS and your PC to the switch. If you need more ports, shift the Smart TV to the router. Also, the second NIC in the Ultra is only for fail-over, so you can leave it unconnected if you need the switch ports.
  • Oh sorry I ment to write Cisco Small Buisness SF100D-08 for the switch :p

Yeah I can see it's a Gigabit switch on cisco's site to, but I'm checking the transfer speed now and it's stuck on exactly 10,0 MB/second. With both the NAS port 1 and my PC on the switch, and not the router.

No changes, same as it was :( turned of the jumbo frames to

Lol as you said, I messed up with megabits and megabytes, since 100 megabits is 12,5 megabytes :S

Then I thought the NAS was capable for higher speed than it actually is created for.

    My bad :)

The SF100D-08 is also 100 mbit. (the "F" stands for "fast ethernet", the SG100D-08 is the gigabit version. You need to be careful on the model numbers...

The NAS is much faster than your network. To get the most out of it, you should buy a gigabit switch to replace the SF100D-08, and connect all your gear to it. You should also check your cables (you need at least cat5e for gigabit).
  • Thank you! I knew somthing was wrong :)

And I actually thought both my router and switch from when I bought them that they were gigabit supported which they currently are not.

And now I know why I messed up with the MB and mb, cus gigabit Ethernet is the same as 128 MBps, and what I saw earlier is that the NAS is pushed up to above 100 MBps in some nice tests.

Now I know why it's been so slow since the 100 megabit Fast Ethernet is only 12,5 MBps overall. Lol.

Cheers alot! I feel like a dummy messing up the simple facts of all..
