Unable to access config menus on NV+
I have an old NV+ that has lain unused for a couple of years - I've powered it up and all seems well, I can access some old files in my share.
When I open the webpage in Chrome (or IE) I get the INFRANT Technologies splash screen, together with the list of shares - one of which I can access ok.
I cannot get to any setup options however - I want to scrub the system clean and start over; I also suspect that the firmware is a few generations behind.
Shouldn't there be a couple of buttons to enable me to get to setup from the main page? All I have are print, email, refresh and log out (this latter being at the bottom of the screen)

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf it says Infrant it's RAIDiator 3.x which is more than a few generations behind. You're running firmware at least 4 and a half years old.
The Info (far right) column in RAIDar should show what version you are running.
There's two things you could try:
1. Get a very, very old version of a web browser and use that to access Frontview and update the firmware
2. Use USB boot recovery (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_can_i_perform_a_boot_recovery_using_a_usb_flash_device) to update the firmware. Then do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) if all data is backed up or do a OS re-install (re-installs firmware from flash). See the boot menu: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu
Welcome to the forum! - ddobsonAspirantOK, thanks for the info.
I see that the usb boot guide says:
"Note: The USB boot recovery method is only recommended for Sparc systems. Do not attempt this on x86 systems unless advised to do so by Technical Support"
I don't know what version I have - on the front, it says ReadyNas NV+; on the back: ReadyNAS RND4250 and on the bottom: RND4000-100NAS
Any thoughts?
dermot - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou have a NV+ v1 which is a Sparc system. You can give this a try.
I would recommend after doing the USB boot recovery you do a factory default to get a clean setup on the latest firmware. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredGood point. Would suggest giving that a try first if you haven't done USB boot recovery yet.
After updating the firmware, I would still recommend backing up your data and doing a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything). - ddobsonAspirantOK, I finally got around to trying to get this box working - I've downloaded the firmware as recommended, installed on to a USB stick and tried to reload.
All starts out OK, but after a few seconds, I get the message 'Kernel Panic' with the 4th HD light on.
I've also tried a factory reset, but it starts out OK and then I get a firmware error.
Since this is a very old unit, I wonder if I should be looking for an older revision than the 4.1.10 that I downloaded and tried.
Any thoughts and all suggestions gratefully received.
dermot - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCan you run a few passes of the memory test?: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/hardware/is_there_a_way_i_can_verify_if_my_memory_is_good
- ddobsonAspirantThanks,
So far, two leftmost leds on and now writing pattern 3 - no signs of errors so far, looks like it'll take awhile longer.
dermot - ddobsonAspirantNow 3rd led from left only, writing pattern 4, obviously a long way to go and since its past midnight here, off to bed - presumably, it'll just halt at whatever memory status it finds?
The Readynas, by the way, is fitted with just 2 x 500 GB drives - I have 4 x 1TB ones I'd like to use.
I did manage to find 4.1.8 revision and tried that, but with exactly the same result. It's such a sturdy well built box, that I'd really like to get it working.
thanks,
dermot - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredLet's see what the result of the memory test is. It should be finished well before you wake up tomorrow.
