uuid-dev - E: Broken package
Hi,
I tried to install de dev environment on my
ReadyNas NV+ running RAIDiator 4.1.7 [1.00a043]
apt-get update
apt-get install libc6-dev
apt-get install gcc
apt-get install gdb
apt-get install libtag1-dev
where installed without problem
then:
nas:~# apt-get install uuid-dev

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
uuid-dev: Depends: libuuid1 (= 1.40.2-1.netgear2) but 1.40.11-1.netgear2 is to be installed
E: Broken packages
nas:~#
I would greatly appreciate if there is a way to get beyond this point :-)
Thanks in advance
Andre

- PapaBear1ApprenticeYou will need to open an on line tech support case. Once you have the case number, edit the heading to include the case number in case a Jedi is browsing the forums. I am assuming there is not current and complete backup for in that case you could do a factory default which wipes the disk and re-installs the OS. There have been many problems posted with apt-get, mostly about upgrading (cannot be don apparently).
- m_nAspirantI have the same problem to !! I tried to install a svn on my readyNas nv+ but the uuid-dev refused the install with this message :
apt-get install uuid-dev

ps : sorry for my bad english (i'am french) - EtzAspirantSame issue here... :?
- bambaxAspirantI'm having the same problem while trying to install libext2fs-devel (used for tarsnap).
Is it wise to copy the relevant files from the relevant Debian package:
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/e2fslibs-dev
@PapaBear, what do you mean by "open an online tech support case"? Would Netgear be willing to assist with this? (Are those packages maintained by Netgear?) - PapaBear1ApprenticeNot unless they were a download from the Netgear site. If they are regular Linux packages, I am not sure they will run on a ReadyNAS, because while it uses Linux as the base OS, it is modified. There could be calls in the application that are not supported.
What I was referring to contacting tech support is if you do not have a current and complete backup of the data before you loaded the package (and we all know that we should have such a backup), then they may be able access the NAS remoted and undo the package so the NAS will return to the operating status. If your NAS is accessible, but there are operating problems, then do a backup and then a factory default which wipes the discs. You can then set the NAS up again and then restore the data.
If you have a current and complete backup, this opens up the option of doing a factory reset without having to involve tech support.
BTW - I am not a Linux user, so cannot help in any of the technical aspects. - bambaxAspirantOh ok thanks for your answer.
I have no problem with my ReadyNAS which is working perfectly; it's just that there is a package (accessible via apt-get on the NAS) that is broken, and so it can't be installed -- which in turn prevents other installs.
There must be a venue where to complain about broken packages? - bambaxAspirantThe list of packages is found in this file:
http://www.readynas.com/packages/readynas/Packages.gz
which has a date of Nov. 2nd, 2010. This I believe is around the time when the last version of the OS for the ReadyNAS came out; it seems likely that the package list was not completely / properly updated to match the versions of the library used in the new version of the OS.
So the question remains: who is in charge of maintaining this file...? (since it's on the readynas.com domain it's probably someone from Netgear?) - bambaxAspirantOk, I just bought a Readynas Duo (for backups). It came with 4.1.6 and I didn't upgrade it to 4.1.7; guess what? the packages work!
I was able to do apt-get install e2fslibs-dev without any problem.
So now I have the following questions:
- is it possible / advisable to downgrade my Readynas NV+ to 4.1.6 in order to install e2fslibs-dev and is it possible to do without doing a factory reset and erasing all the data that is already on it?
- it would be better if the packages were upgraded in order to work with 4.1.7; where can I ask that this be done? - hfrAspirantI just bought a Readynas Duo, too.
The system runs the Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.6 [1.00a043]
I tried:
apt-get install uuid-dev
and it did not work and leads to the discussed dependency problem:
"uuid-dev: Depends: libuuid1 (= 1.40.2-1.netgear2) but 1.40.11-1.netgear2 is to be installed"
When will this be fixed?
Someone out there needs to build a new uuid-dev package that can make use of 1.40.11-1.netgear2!
It cannot be that difficult.
Please hekp... - flottAspirantSame problem here.. there must be a solution to this.. without downgrading the whole system, that is out of the question.
