XRaid2 upgrade 5x2 to 3x2 + 2x3 - nothing happens?
Hello all,
i thought i understood the concept, prob not. I have an Ultra6 readynas which first had 3x2tb installed and later on 2x2tb in an XRaid2 setup. So 5x2tbwas installed which gave me prox 7,2 tb netto of free space
In stead of using my last bay to add more space, i replaced the last 2 2tb discs with a 3tb disc. So bay 4 and 5 were replaced by a 3tb disc. I replaced each disc one at a time and let it resync.
After about 16 hours total, both disks are replaced, but i still have 7,2 Tb available, so only 1858GB is used in stead of 2795 GB of the 3tb discs
I thought that with single redundency only 2 discs needed to be replaced to get the extra space of a larger harddisk, so what should or can i do to get extra space. Cause now it was useless to replace the discs because i did not get anything out of this
regards

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTry a reboot, wait 5-10 minutes and if expansion hasn't started reboot again.
- starbbsAspirantI did a reboot after every resync, so 1st disc replaced, resync and reboot, second disc replaced , resync and a reboot. No expansion
I just did a reboot again, lets hope it will do the expansion. this is my setup, disc 4 and 5 were replaced by 3tb discs

What version of RAIDiator are you running? - starbbsAspirantThe firmware is 4.2.22

- starbbsAspirantThanks for the replies and the howto, i saw that journalling in fv could not be selected ore deselected so maybe this might
be the cause. in the howto it said it should be of - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou shouldn't see the "Disable Journaling" option any more as that's obsolete. You should see the "Disable full data journaling" option though but that's different.
However if there is the "Disable Journaling" option that should be unchecked i.e. journaling would be enabled.
I agree with Stephen. Open a support case. They should be able to determine why expansion hasn't taken place. - Marto731AspirantGents,
It sounds to me that the NAS was originally installed with 3x 2 Tera disks,
and that you are hitting expansion limits. I dont have figure on this.
I would prefer to see data backed up, and a full Factory default done.
Build volume again.
Only 2/3 of each 3 tera drive will be used in RAID.
Regards,
Marto - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredExpansion limits shouldn't be hit with that configuration.
And with X-RAID2 single-redundancy with that configuration the full 3TB should be usable. Take a look at the XRAID Volume Size Calculator link in my sig. - beisser1Tutorits also possible that hes using dual redundancy.. if thats the case he would need 4 disks of the same size to expand.
edit: cant be dual redundancy. 7.2tb capacity on 5 drives means its single redundancy. please open a case with support.
