Bandwidth cut in half on my FVS336Gv2

I have an FVS336Gv2 router which is cutting my bandwidth in half. I connect directly to the modem and the bandwidth doubles. I basicly have default settings on my router with no restrictions.

Hello SherlockSD,

May we ask how much bandwidth you get when connected straight to the modem?

Please describe your network setup too.

Re: Bandwidth cut in half on my FVS336Gv2

I am experencing a similar issue with the FVS336Gv2. Directly connected to the modem I have 60 down and 6 up. Through the router with default configuration and only the same PC used directly with the modem connected to the router and it's 30 down and 6 up. Router is loaded with the 4.3.3-6 firmware

Re: Bandwidth cut in half on my FVS336Gv2

Hi daddymc,

Welcome to the community! 🙂

Kindly answer these questions below to isolate the problem:

a. Is your modem a modem-only device or a modem-router combination?

b. have you tried to reboot both modem and the FVS336Gv2 then check if still same problem?

c. Have you tried to factory reset the FVS336Gv2 then reconfigure it from scratch?

I look forward to your response.

Re: Bandwidth cut in half on my FVS336Gv2

Modem is Modem only  Arris SB6141 the FVS336Gv2 is the only router

Yes I have rebooted both devices multiple time

Yes I have factory reset the FVS336v2 and even with the default config same 50% reduction

This only seems to impact download speed, upload speed are the same as PC direct connected to modem.

Re: Bandwidth cut in half on my FVS336Gv2

Hi daddymc,

Kindly try these steps below:

a. Connect your PC directly to the modem.  Make sure you have internet access.
b. Disconnect the PC from the modem.
c. Connect the FVS336Gv2 directly to the modem.  Then, connect the PC to a LAN port of the FVS336Gv2.
d. Access the web-GUI of the FVS336Gv2.  Go to Network Configuration > WAN Settings > Broadband ISP Settings.
e. Click "Advanced" on the upper right section of the Broadband ISP Settings page.
f. On the Router's MAC Address section, select "Use this Computer's MAC Address."
g. Click Apply.  Then, check if the connection has improved.

If ever still same problem, kindly do these additional steps:

a. Turn off the both modem and FVS336Gv2.
b. After 5 seconds, turn on first the modem and wait for it to initialize.
c. After the modem has initialize, turn on the FVS336Gv2.
d. Check if the connection has improved.

If ever still same problem,   kindly do these additional steps:

a. Disconnect the FVS336Gv2 from modem.
b. Connect the PC directly to the modem.  Make sure you have internet access and getting 60Mb/s of connection.
c. Once you confirm that you are still getting 60Mb/s of connection, disconnect the laptop from the modem.
d. Connect the FVS336Gv2 directly to the modem again.
e. Connect the PC to a LAN port of the FVS336Gv2.
f. Check if the connection has improved.

Hope it helps.

Re: Bandwidth cut in half on my FVS336Gv2

Did not change still less than 30 down

Took an old TP-Link router just connected it to the modem and connected PC to it. Back to 60 no additional hoops to jump through. To boot the TP-Link router has a 100base link to the modem, the FVS336v2 auto detects a 1000base connection to modem and modem is fine with that.

I don't understand why this router is behaving like this. What in the default configuration would be limiting the throughput of the WAN connection?
