FVS318G and address redirection

Hello,

I just need a quick info, i'm pretty sure the FVS318G does not provide any address redirection function, but maybe there's a filtering trick to redirect a http request.

I actually try to redirect an address like support.thecompanyiamworkingfor.com to something like 192.168.x.x which lies in a VPN subnet.

The problem is i do not have any DNS servers in the local network where the FVS318G does provide internet and VPN connection.
I also do not want support.thecompanyiamworkingfor.com to be accessible from the internet, so creating a real DNS zone is not my solution.

Any ideas please ?
Thanks.

Not really seeing the picture of all this

Where the domain is coming from?

Http redirect of domain is handle not in the router unless you aren't tying to point to web serer behind the fvs.

Re: FVS318G and address redirection

Hello,

I did not explain myself correct (sorry for my bad english).

Here's what i am trying to do:
I have a web server that lies in a VPN space (lets say 192.168.1.1)
In that VPN space i have a DNS server that points http://support.whatevercompany.con to 192.168.1.1

On the local subnet (lets say 192.168.2.1), i do not have a DNS server but i'd like my customers to access that webserver by typing http://support.whatevercompany.con instead of http://192.168.1.1

For some reasons including Microsoft Exchange, i cannot use the 192.168.1.x DNS server on my 192.168.2.x subnet as it would point also point other services like Exchange to my internal address instead of the external one.

I am aware this is a special case, and i am aware that the router is not supposed to handle this, but is there any way to redirect a http request with the FVS318G's content filter ?

Thanks.

Re: FVS318G and address redirection

Router does not do DNS function for full LAN. You need your own DNS server
