GS716T-200NAS port not working

I have a HP DL165 server that is connected to a GS716T-200NAS.

This one particular connection seems to be having issues, I keep having to move it to a different port (that it's MAC address has never been associated with) in order for the link to come up.

This is the only DL165 I have, none of the other machines connected to the switch exhibit the issue.

What is causing this? I do have the green/short-cable optimizations enabled but turning them off for this port doesn't solve the issue.

  • Assuming that the newly "vacated" port works with another machine, I would be tempted to say it's not a switch issue. What you're describing is quite unusual, among other reasons, because the switch will "associate" (or store in it's address table) the MAC address of a host connected to a port with the very first packet sent by that host, so, for what you describe to be correct, the switch should disconnect that host literally within seconds of it being connected, so that you would never actually see it connected. What do you mean by "in order for the link to come up"?
