GS724TP VLAN Issues
I just added a GS724TP to my network, it is showing the latest firmware 5.0.0.15 with the Boot Version of 1.0.0.5. This switch was added to utilize the POE feature of the new GS108T (New Gray ones).
The plan is to use the 724TP to power the 2 GS108T's located throughout the building. This part of the equation is working fine.
My existing Network has 3 different VLANS with IDs of 1,2 & 3 I am trying to get the 724TP integrated with my other Netgear Switches and I can't seem to get them to play nice. First of all talk about interfaces that are all over the place, no consistency whatsoever (I really hope that changes). Even between the GS724T and the GS724TP there is a difference in functionality that just shouldn't be.
Anyway what I need to do it remove some of the ports from VLAN 1 in the GS724TP and every time I try and do anything to VLAN 1 I get an error message saying that VLAN 1 is not editable??? Every other Netgear Switch I have I have been able to do this without an issue. What is the problem???
Is this because this is the "Management VLAN"? If so what happens if I make another vlan the management one? I need consistency throughout all of the switches and as I've never run on to this before. Again great job on the consistency of your product line.
Any thoughts / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This was supposed to be a nice addition to our network but so far it has been nothing but a huge headache!

- funhouse69AspirantI forgot to mention I am trying to pass Tagged Traffic so to clarify this if I change the PVID on say port 1 of the GS724TP it will "Remove" it from VLAN 1 however what I need to do is pass Tagged Traffic for all 3 VLANs 1, 2 & 3 through Port # 1 which is going to another switch as each switch has multiple VLANs some are port based and some are Tagged. If I try and Tag VLAN 1 on Port 1 I get an error saying I can't edit VLAN 1. Again this works on all other Netgear Switches without issue.
- funhouse69AspirantOk so apparently the VLAN 1 "Tagging" this is a "Known Issue" with the current firmware as well as any of the other 5.x ones from what I am seeing. Is it possible to get a Beta Firmware for the GS724TP or since that doesn't seem likely at this point an even better question is if I downgrade to one of the 3.x firmwares will I get back the VLAN Functionality that I so desperately need? Basically unless / until I can get this resolved this switch is completely useless to me and I haven't heard back fro Netgear as of yet either.
- blessaniAspirantIt is "possible" - I managed to figure this out on a GS748TS, -- Change the management vlan to another arbitrary vlan, ensure that there is a port with the appropriate PVID and untagged port set. telnet x.x.x.x 60000 mcli mcli vlanDefaultEnabled 1 .. press down arrow until "false" e y q Which then deletes vlan1 / default vlan. The "default" vlan1 is then gone in the web GUI, and your are able to re-add vlan1 (as a static, not default) vlan. Edit "Membership.js" in Chrome's developer tools, and change alert("VLAN 1 is not editable");return false; to alert("VLAN 1 is editable :)");return true; Now the changes to VLAN1 can take effect via the web GUI.
- K1XHAspirantIs the procedure the same for the GS724Tv.3?
- IBISUPPORTAspirantHI
I have the same problem with the Netgear GS748TS
VLAN 1 is not editable
Je ne parviens pas à faire un Telnet X.X.X.X 60000
Avez-vous une solution plus propre ? - IBISUPPORTAspirantHi
I Have the same problem with sur Netgear GS748TS
VLAN 1 is not editable
I cannot access via Telnet X.X.X.X 60000
Do you have a better solution ? - fordemMentorThis may sound a little confusing - because frankly it is - even though the switch tells you that the VLAN1 cannot be edited, it can, I have done it, I just don't remember the sequence.
Try creating a second VLAN, adding the ports you want in that VLAN to the VLAN and then see if you can remove them from VLAN1. - marcoreedijkAspirantOur solution:
Change the PVID of the desired port to the other VLAN.
Then the port will be automatically removed from VLAN 1
You can do this by checking the row in PVID Config and fill in the right VLAN ID in the textbox above the list and click APPLY
