GSM5212 voice VLAN killing LAN access for Yealink T42S phones
Objective -
I'm trying to set up 3 T42S phones for a 3cx pbx installation on an OVH vps in STUN configuration behind a Netgear M4100-D12G switch using the Auto-Voice VLAN.
The router is a Netgear R8000P configured with reserved IPs for each phone.
The Problem -
When any of the phones are reset for provisioning, network availability is permanently lost and can be recovered only by a hard factory reset.
I isolated the problem by removing the ports used by the phones from the Auto-Voice vlan and network connectivity for the phones was restored after provisioning.
I would really appreciate suggestions that would allow me to reinstate the Auto-Voice vlan feature.

Re: GSM5212 voice VLAN killing LAN access for Yealink T42S phones
By rule of thumb, the R8000P (like any other current Netgear consumer router) can't handle multiple VLAN with dedicated TCP/IP subnetworks.
Not sure why you want to enable the AUto-Vocie VLAN feature with this simple set-up. It will bring the VoIP devices into a different VLAN, which has no IP config, no DHCP server, ... finally no connection to the outside world.

Re: GSM5212 voice VLAN killing LAN access for Yealink T42S phones
It goes without saying that this is not my area of speciality so I truly appreciate the assistance.
As for the router, what one would you suggest for a small business environment like this?
My rudimentary understanding about using a voice vlan is that it gives priority to voice packets in order to keep conversation smooth and free of interruptions by other network traffic. If that is true, it would seem to be important for even one phone so that the user didn't inadvertently destroy the quality of his phone call by downloading a big file while trying to talk.
I would very much appreciate hearing your response to those thoughts so that I might better understand this.
Thank you in advance.

Re: GSM5212 voice VLAN killing LAN access for Yealink T42S phones
Well, the bigger problem with VoIP is the Internet connection over the in a small environment almost irrevelent voice VLAN advantage in the switch, isn't it?
Theoretically, you could reserve or dynamically allocate bandwith for the IP telephony, especially if there is a compareably thin Internet uplink- as common on asymmetricel link on a more sophisticated router. But afraid, Netgar does currently offer no such products. And there is a higher price tag in the play, too.

Hi @lcs0500,
You might need to change the R8000P with a business type of router that would fit your network requirements. Let me share the articles I found online and use it as your reference guide:
For further assistance, I suggest you open a chat or online case with NETGEAR Support at anytime.

Re: GSM5212 voice VLAN killing LAN access for Yealink T42S phones
Thank you both for the suggestions and reference documents.
I have decided to replace the router with one designed for business use.
It seems to me that, with only 3 phones, a business router would eliminate the need for a managed switch.
Please let me know if that isn't correct.
Thanks,
Lou

This does lead to the question if there is a need for a business router and a managed switch if there are just three IP phones at all?
