GSM7224v2 and SFP module from 10Gtek

Dear forum.

I have got two GSM7224v2 switches.

Both switches have been reset (via CLI on serial port) and flashed with the latest firmware (8.0.1.36).

The switches are running very well with some devices connected via RJ45-Cables.

Now I plugged in a "GLC-LX-SM-RGD" SFP module made by 10Gtek. The label states that this is a "1000Base-LS 1310 nm"-module.

But the switches are not recognizing the SFP modules by themselves and I can not find any menu item (Web login) or CLI command to change this. The LEDs for the SFP ports remain dark.

Other things I tested:

- switched the LC connectors to swap send/receive

- restarted the switches with modules plugged in

- put both modules into the same switch and used a 1 m long LC/LC cable (with blue connectors) to connect them. But the LEDs stay dark.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Especially on these older switches, strictly stick with the Netgear modules supported (not just the model flashed) to avoid interoperability issues.

– AGM731F 1000BASE-SX SFP GBIC
– AGM732F 1000BASE-LX SFP GBIC
– AGM733 1000BASE-ZX SFP GBIC
– 100FX SFP LC transceiver

You might have some luck by finding Broadcom-based GBIC modules.

Thank you for your replay. I bought another pair of identical switches (HP ProCurve) and did some testing. The problem was a faulty LC/LC patch cable. Using the new cable a connection using two 10GTek -Modules and one ProCurve and one GSM7224v2 the LEDs on both switches turned immediately green. Best regards.
