Switch GS748TS - How to secure web access
Hello,
we have purchased two GS748TS switches. I would like to ask if it is possible to secure web access(e.g. to allow login from specific IPs).
I would also like to know if HTTPS can be used instead of HTTP.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Switch GS748TS - How to secure web access
This switch is an almost 10 year old design, the firmware is just about 4 MB ... less than what would be required to implement a correct working https solution.
You might want to establish a trusted VLAN dedicated for the network administration to limit the access for the moment. No idea if Netgear has a plan to implement https on this product line - @LaurentMa can you join please?

Re: Switch GS748TS - How to secure web access
This is correct, there is no HTTPS possible on these previous generations of Smart switches. Modern S3300 Smart Managed Pro stackable switches offer HTTPS access to the Web interface.
Restricting the Web interface access allowing login from specific IPs (or MAC) is called Management ACL (MACL access control list) and this type of advanced feature is available on Fully Managed switch platforms. I would advise our excellent M4300 series here.
Yes, the Management VLAN should be leveraged here, and secured. This way, only trusted admins would access this VLAN hence the GS748TS Web interface.
Regards,
