Constant Scanning Attacks being blocked by Netgear Armor

Hello,

I recently installed a new router (AXE7800) and Netgear Armor is active.  Just about every day since I installed the router I get notifications that Netgear Armor has blocked a scanning attack.  It happens about 10-15 times a day on just one of my PC's.  The latest one from today reads:

NETGEAR Armor has detected and blocked a scanning attack on ALEX-PC from 80.82.77.146  A port scanning attack involves the attacker infiltrating active hosts on a network and sending harmful packets to specific ports attempting to reveal information about your network or device.  You're protected and don't need to do anything else.

This is my sons PC, he does all of his gaming on that machine.  It has things like Steam, Fortnite, World of Warcraft, Discord, etc . . .

That port number in the notification changes all the time, it'll be the same number multiple times in a row, then on a different day it's a new ip number.  So apparently it is blocking this attack, that's great.  But my question is, what is causing this?  Is there possibly some virus on that PC?  I do have Bitdefender installed on that machine, but I don't remember it saying it has found a virus or anything.  Just don't like the idea of this constant attack, and I'd like to investigate it further.  Anyone have some input on this?

Thanks much!

Chris Rud

Sometimes players on those games buy time on bot systems to flood their opponents PCs to slow down their reaction time. You could try manually assigning a different IP address to the machine. Usually you just have to wait them out. They get the ip address from other apps that can reveal the address
