526X CPU Upgrade Options
Hi Folks,
Does anybody know the CPU upgrade options for the 526X? I'd like to use it for Plex and be a bit more heavyweight.
Many Thanks
Stephen Elliott

Re: 526X CPU Upgrade Options
The 526X's processor, an Intel D1508, is only available as a ball grid array. That is, permanently soldered in. So, there are no upgrade options.

Re: 526X CPU Upgrade Options
That's a shame...
I doubt that increasing the RAM from the deafult of 4GB will have much of an impact on Plex performance either.
Perhaps I need to consider a seperate server for Plex to support 4K transcoding.

That's what I've done (and also I run other applications on that PC). The server has a 10GBaseT card, and I've mapped the 526x data volume to a drive letter (using admin credentials of course).
Personally I think it's a better approach than loading up the NAS with apps. One benefit is that it gives me more flexibility on upgrades.
