Import users from active directory

HI All,

I have a problem importing users from active directory, despite that the operation completed successfully but i cant found users after authentication succeed.

It was working fine, then i forced to format the Domain and create new one, then i can't import users again.

What could be the issue here?

Regards

Hello Peter_Zulof,

Have you tried clicking Refresh ADS accounts button? Or maybe rejoining the AD?

Hello Peter_Zulof,

How many users are you importing? And what is the current FW version of the NAS?

This takes you to the same place as the "Sending Logs" link in mdgm's signature.

Re: Import users from active directory

thank you @Peter_Zulof

i tested a second unit, factory reseted and it doesn't work either.

Then i tested it with a second, test lab, domain controller 2012R2 and it worked neither.

The problems with the netgear nas drive me crazy and I probably will sooner or later exchange and sell off all netgear devices.

edit: Firmware on both 6.4.2.

Re: Import users from active directory

hi @Peter_Zulof

i have done the following workaround:

-Join the NAS to the Domain

-setup the share permissions like in this articel: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7066/~/readynas-os-6%3A-setting-active-directory-folde...

(i removed everyone, guest etc. completly and added the domain users, domain admins ...)

regards

Re: Import users from active directory

Using that article is what we recommend for configuring permissions.

If you have trouble joining the domain you should contact support to do the troubleshooting for that. Support won't be able to help with doing it on a beta firmware release unless they suggested trying that in a support case, but they would be able to help with doing it on 6.4.2.

In 6.5.0 we have updated samba to the latest samba series (4.4) from the 4.2 series.

If your support has expired then support would ask you to purchase additional support. Note that if it's a business class product purchased on/after June 1, 2014 it may have lifetime chat support.

It's important to make sure the NAS is using the same time server as the Domain Controller. If the time is not in sync then joining the domain will fail.

Joining the domain should work smoothly, but if it doesn't it may require advanced troubleshooting, reviewing logs and using e.g. Teamviewer to have a look at your server and figure out why the domain join is failing. For initial setup the 90 days of support from the date of purchase should be more than enough time to resolve any issues with this.

If you have trouble joining a domain and don't know why and don't wish to purchase support you could backup your data and do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything) if you didn't do one recently and try again.

We can also review your logs, but it may not be something we can easily resolve through community support.
