Moved house - can't connect to Readycloud

I have a RN10400 Readynas RAID. We've moved house, and I'm trying set it up - but it's been offline since July. Now I try setting it up again, I discover that when I log in to my Netgear account, I'm unable to access anything via Readycloud. 'Access your Netgear' is not a link, which I assume it would be if I had access to my Readynas. I now have a MacBook Air, with no USB or Ethernet input, so I can't connect to the ReadyNas directly. What do I do? Can I regain access via Readycloud??
I'm not very techie and have little idea of what I'm doing, so if anyone has an explanation at the idiot level, that would be splendid!

ReadyCloud was shut down by Netgear around the time you took your NAS offline.  

 

So you will need to find alternatives.

 

Access to the NAS while you are at home doesn't require ReadyCloud, you can simply log into the admin web ui directly (https://nas-ip-address/admin) and with Windows File Explorer and Finder (MacOS).

 

Can you explain your other uses of ReadyCloud?  Did you use it for remote access?  Or for sharing files with family/friends?

Ahhh, thank you! No, I think I only used ReadyCloud for access. As I said, I don't really know what I'm doing.
Which leads me to my next question. I've now connected the ReadyNas to the Airport, I can see it in my finder, and I can access the admin page; Netgear RAIDar says it's 'healthy'. I've also updated the firmware, so the ReadyNas is currently sounding pretty busy. I can locate it in my finder but I can't access the contents, maybe because it's still figuring itself out.
Do I need to tell it the new IP address? Or will it know that because it's connected to the Airport (with an ethernet cable)?
Sorry, probably a very ignorant question...

  • Does the admin web interface say anything else on what the NAS is busy doing?  For instance, is it re-syncing?
  • Can you see the files when you browse on the Shares page of the web ui?

The NAS knows the IP address, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to access the web interface.

It is possible that it is busy, but it would be good to know what it is doing - what is why I asked about what you are seeing in the web interface above.

 

When you try to access the contents, what credentials are you using?  Have you tried using "admin" (with the NAS admin password)?

If you've always used ReadyCloud to access your NAS, then the only "local" user account on it is the admin one.  Connecting using the admin credentials will show that you do have access, but you'll probably want to add a local account and give that account the necessary rights to the shares rather than continuing to use the admin credentials..

Thanks so much, all! I bumblingly got there, once reminded that I didn't need to use ReadyCloud for access. It took time to set up, as I updated the firmware, so it was busy with that for quite a while. But now, everything is working, hallelujah.
