ReadyNAS 428 memory upgrade

I've been looking around and haven't been able to determine if the memory on the 428 is upgradable. 

I've seen that the 2 and 4 bay 4-series has soldered on memory. Hoping this is not the case for the 428

All RN420 series memory are soldered. That goes with RN428

For desktop units I'm not sure if there still are chassis where you can upgrade the RAM.

As per @Frank888 RN426 and RN428 does have extra memory slots so that one is a correction, RN422 and RN424 memories are soldered.

Both RN426/RN428 still have extra memry slots for memory upgrade.

OK that's good to see

disappointed there are no reviews of the 428 out there. 

I'll definitely open it up when I get mine on tuesday and take a look. 

I plan on maxing that thing out if I can.

Please check the existing memory module and use the same ECC or non-ECC configuration module to upgrade.

Curious to know if anyone at Netgear can speak to how much memory the board maxes out at for ECC and non-ECC? 

Intel specs on the C3538 CPU say 256GB. I'm not that nuts to put that much ram into this thing. If it had a beefier CPU or a GPU for Plex then maybe I would. 

I'm shooting for 16GB at the moment. Guessing that the board maxes out at 32GB or 64GB?

non-ECC memory prices about the same so looks like ECC is the way to go

ECC memory is definitely better to use. All installed sticks need to be ECC to use ECC memory. The max memory capacity is 64GB with four modules (so max of 4x16GB modules).

The modules must be UDIMM (Unbuffered DIMM) modules. I can't see unbuffered mentioned anywhere in the description of the Crucial modules on Amazon.

Do IT for a living, done data centers and everything else along with IT

Couldn't find a spec page for the Crucial memory either. So not sure. 

Anyone in your testing labs have an pictures of  various sticks used? 🙂
