ReadyNAS Duo v1, etherne flashing green fixed amber= no see?
Hi my ReadyNAS Duo v1 has been working for many years really well, that is until this weekend.
It has two 2Tb HDD that are Raided.
I also have a ReadyNAS Duo v2 with one 4Tb HDD, that is also working well.
For some reason I choose to virus check of both the boxes, after which by coincidence the Duo v1 showed signs of being unhappy!!
Presently, I can not see the Duo v1 on the network or via RAIDAR, so unable to manage it any more.
I am unable to Ping the device either and it is not seen on the network map shown on the PC (Windows 7)
The unit Boots up ok as one would expect, with the front lights/leds showing that both HDD are ok.
However the Ethernet port at the rear of the box is showing a flashing green led (as if communicating with the network),
but there is also a fixed amber led showing.
To me this suggesting a networking problem with the Duo v1?
Any advice, repairs, parts ?????
Appreciate your time and help. Regards. Jimbo.

- JimboFosterAspirantHI Tony,
Thanks for that.
Been swanning around my LAN, checked the router, no sign of either Duo's at the router, although v2 is seen and working elsewhere.
Any idea what the fixed Amber LED means? Can't seem to find any details as yet! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPerhaps a slower network connection? Can you try changing the Ethernet cable and/or the port on the router/switch?
- JimboFosterAspirantYepp done all that. Swopped router/hub/cables etc no difference.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCan you see it if you do a direct-connect? Can use a standard ethernet cable for this. Also note with a direct-connect the NAS will take the I.P. 192.168.168.168.
- JimboFosterAspirantHI. NO luck with that either, timed out. Raidar didn't see anything either.
In the meantime the Duo v1 is quietly working away in it's own world!! - aksVirtuosoYou have two NAS units, a DUOv1 and a DUOv2.
You can find the v2 on the network. What do you mean, you can access files and the Dashboard?
You said that neither NAS appear in your router. Hmmm, if the NAS is wired to the router *and* you can communicate with it, then it must appear in the router connected devices?
You said the v1 is not communicating at all but the yellow led is on permanently. This could be a speed negotiation indication.
So I recommend we start by finding the details of the working v2 to be sure we are on the same page. Find the IP address, log in to the admin page (Dashboard), confirm file shares via your PC (is that Windows or MAC, which version, wired or wireless connection), what is the IP address of the PC, what router do you have. Many questions I know, but please take the time to dig around a bit more to give us a few more clues so that we can help you with the next steps.
Then repeat for the DUOv1. If it's not communicating at all, then we may need more drastic action. But first, do you have an old/spare hard drive? - JimboFosterAspirantHI Tony.
Sorry if there is any confusion.
My Duo v2 is working fine and is seen and used wire or wireless throughout my LAN, I set my IP addresses to be fixed on all wired hardware.
I have Windows v7 PC's & laptops and Android devices they all can use the Duo v2 without concern.
My Duo v1 can not be seen on my LAN at all, I have tried everything that I can think of all wired to the LAN, on different hubs/routers. Nothing.
The only symptom that have available to me is that the Duo v1, appears to boot up in an expected way, with both 2Tb HDD (Raided) show green LED lights at the front of the unit. AT the rear, the Ethernet port shows a fixed amber LED along with the green LED flashing normally (as if it was communicating with the LAN). Additionally, the LED lights on the Hub/router show that it is connected and are flashing to suggest 1000Mb connections and working as if normally.
I can not Ping the device to the last IP address known or the default.
RAIDar does not identify it on the LAN.
Tried all of the above with my laptop as well to no avail, including direct connection to my laptop to no avail either.
Therefore I can not work the unit in anyway at all.
In the mean time I am using the free Linux Reader on my study PC, transferred #1 HDD from duo v1 to the PC and have been able to recover all the data on duo v1 to duo v2 quite happily, but slowly. Will hopefully finish that of tomorrow or Friday, so then I can play with duo v1 safely without having to worry about my data!
Jimbo. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserAfter the data is all pulled off, you could try a factory reset of the v1.
- JimboFosterAspirantYepp I think that's best option - Any idea what has happened?
