ReadyNAS NV+ V2 - APC UPS SMT750I

I have a small home network that includes a ReadyNAS NV+ V2 and wish to add a 750VA UPS. The UPS model that I am considering is the APC Smart-UPS 750VA LCD 230V model# SMT750I

The APC Smart UPS 750VA model in the Netgear Compatibility List is the SUA750I and according to APC this model is superceded by the SMT750I

I have contacted ReadyNAS Support about this issue, but they advise that the SMT750I has not been tested for compatability.

Does anyone know if the APC SMT750I is compatible with the ReadyNAS NV+ V2

Any help, or advice, would be greatly appreciated.

Re: ReadyNAS NV+ V2 - APC UPS SMT750I

NetGear no longer updates the UPS compatibility list. Most APC UPS units with a USB port should be compatible. One would think that this model probably would be.

I only have some of the old models, namely one of each of the following: SUA750XLI, SUA1000I and SUA1000XLI.

Re: ReadyNAS NV+ V2 - APC UPS SMT750I

mdgm, Thanks for the response. I also thought that the SMT750I would be compatible because of USB facility.

However, I was less confident when I got the following reply from ReadyNAS Support in response to my question asking if the SMT750I was compatible with the NV+ V2:-

If it is a USB UPS then the only way I would know is to test it. If it is a IP UPS then there should be no issue.

I think only USB UPS units are supported with the v2 at this time. If you get the UPS post back with your experiences.

Re: ReadyNAS NV+ V2 - APC UPS SMT750I

I decided to get the APC SMT750I UPS and test it with my ReadyNAS NV+ V2 running RAIDiator 5.3.5.

First, I did a safe power down of the ReadyNAS and connected its power lead to one of the power sockets on the UPS. I then connected the USB port on the SMT750I to one of the rear USB ports on the ReadyNAS using the USB lead supplied with the UPS.

I started the UPS and then started the ReadyNAS. During the ReadyNAS initialisation it displayed 'UPS Connected' on the front panel just before displaying the available and installed hard disk capacities.

Once the NAS was fully initialised, I opened the configure page in the ReadyNAS Dashboard and it showed the UPS icon as green and hovering over it with the mouse, displayed a dialogue balloon with the UPS Model shown as 'APC Smart-UPS 750', together with the the battery charge and estimated run-time.

I disconnected the mains supply to the UPS and its front panel indicators changed to reflect it going from mains supply to battery.

42 seconds after disconnecting the main ower supply from the UPS, a warning dialogue box popped up in the ReadyNAS window advising 'UPS is on battery'. The ReadyNAS also sent an email advising 'UPS is on battery power'

I continued to monitor the ReadyNAS configure page and it showed both the battery charge and run-time decreasing with time.

Eventually, a warning dialogue box popped up in the ReadyNAS configure page advising 'UPS battery is low, system will shutdown soon'. At this point the battery charge was shown as 10% and the run-time was 4 minutes. The ReadyNAS also sent an email advising 'UPS battery is low, system will shutdown soon'.

After a few seconds, a warning dialogue box popped up in the ReadyNAS Dashboard window advising 'UPS is shutting down system' and the ReadyNAS started to automatically shutdown. The ReadyNAS also sent an email advising 'UPS is shutting down system''.

The ReadyNAS safely shutdown.

I don't know what else, if anything, would be considered as a 'compatibility' issue. However, based on the above simple test, I think the ReadyNAS NV+ V2 and SMT750I appear to be compatible.

Re: ReadyNAS NV+ V2 - APC UPS SMT750I

Sounds like it's compatible. If there was a compatibility issue the NAS wouldn't have been shutdown when it was meant to.

I have used the SMT750 120V model and have had good luck. You should be fine.
