Readynas 4200 and 3TB on USB cradle only 746/801 GB...HELP
Hello...
I have a 4200 here that i need to run with a USB attached 3tb Seagate drive...
It shows me 746 gb availalabe and i am able to format that as well...
But i can't get it to see the full size...
smartctl sees the whole cpacity, but fdisk is not able to get it...
I guess it has something todo with the early version of fdisk that does not know GPT...
But somehow it must be possible...
OS is newest version x.30 and i tried to load parted over ssh but it wont work...
Any one did this before?!
THX!!!!

It might be a limitation of the USB cradle. I have an older USB-2 sata adapter that is limited to 2 TB drives.
But you can't use fdisk for this - it doesn't support gpt. You want sgdisk.

Re: Readynas 4200 and 3TB on USB cradle only 746/801 GB...HELP
Hello...
Thx for your response...
I already checked the cradle and it supports up to 4 TB according to the tech support...
Will take a look at sgdisk...
Can you make a litte suggestion how to use?!
Havent heard about that yet...
EDIT: Played around with it but it also just shows me the 746.5 GiB
And somehow it seems that it is not writing the info to the drive...everytime i do the commands it does the same output...
Thx!!

Hello...Checked around with that tool sgdisk
Here the output that it gives me with the 3TB drive:

Smart hinggegen gibt das aus:

Re: Readynas 4200 and 3TB on USB cradle only 746/801 GB...HELP
Not at all...
And sorry for the german infront of the second Quote...sometimes i fall back to home...smile
I have not the slightest idea why it is only showing/detecting these 746 gib...
The smart shows the drive and its size correct, but not the protition tools i tried so far...
fdisk failed on it...and your sgdisk is alo not able to see the bigger drive...
Even that it seems to unerstand GPT...
Is there any tool, that can do that?!
Or is there a way to apt-get any modern packages to this old jessie?
