Snapshots
ReadyNAS 104 with firmware 6.1.2.
I had daily snapshots activated on my main share, but no snapshots were created after a few months.
I believe the reason is because I only power the unit for a few hours each day, so it never is on for 24h to complete the snapshot.
If this is the case I don't think this behavior is correct. The OS should check if there is any changes older than 24h and create a snapshot immediately, even if it was powered only a few minutes before.
I've set hourly snapshots to cover my issue for now.

Re: Snapshots
Daily snapshots are created shortly after midnight. So another workaround is to make sure the RN104 is powered on then, using the power-on schedule.
I'd like to be able to set the snapshot time for daily snapshots, and the time and day of the week for weekly. That would eliminate most of the missed snapshot scenarios.
I think rest of the solution for missed snapshots is simply to make one on power up if the snapshot was missed. I don't see any reason to look for changes. A snapshot taken at time T lets me revert back to that time, undoing changes that might be made in the future. So past changes are not really relevant to the decision to make a new one. I think I'd prefer a setting for this this particular aspect; I can envision some scenarios where I'd rather simply skip the snapshot.

Re: Snapshots
I would say that "at time set (currently only midnight as you said) or at first opportunity" would be the best behavior. If it is ON at midnight, do it then, if it is only powered ON by 9 AM, that is the time to do it.

Re: Snapshots
I second (and third :-)) that: If it is ON at midnight, do it then, if it is only powered ON by 9 AM, that is the time to do it.
