Terrible new forum format

Is there a way of vwing all messages in all categories as there was before?  That made it much easier for me to find messages to which I might add a solution or comment..  Half the time (like with this message), it's not evben clear what the correct category is, but it didn't really matter since you could view all at once. The format also now has fewer messages listed on a page and a lot more fluff.

I don't know who thinks this is an improvement, but I don't see it as one.  I know you didn't write the software, but you could have chosen to not update it.

You'll probably be seing a lot less of me.

@Sandshark

Thanks for the feedback. We are working to make sure you can easily get to all your topics without issues. There may be a few little bumps as we polish things up on the live database.  We are collecting all feedback in this thread here: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Stories/Community-Pages-Update-Feedback/td-p/1311774

Which gets me "An invalid set of parameters has been specified in the url."

Re: Terrible new forum format

I ran into that same issue with that URL. I think there is a change in the link between the one that I found that is working and the one that is not working:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Stories/Community-Pages-Update-Feedback/m-p/1311774

(There is an m-p vs the td-p.)

I agree entirely with @Sandshark , I also like to have all posts from all sub forums on one page in strict time/date order.

One other important apparent loss is that posts do not indicate whether I have read them or not (i.e Bold font or not), I really do not wish to have to remember the time when I last read a thread.

@BretD  the link you quote above does not open for me

Also releasing a "Development", unannounced, expecting it to have  "a few little bumps as we polish things up" is yet another example of the failure of Netgear to have adequate system test and QA procedures in place , instead relying on their clients to report faults, bugs, etc., this deonstrates a total disregard for their client base.

I also will have fewer visits and therefore offer less advice to others.

Re: Terrible new forum format

I wholeheartedly agree. Be sure to give your feedback in https://community.netgear.com/t5/Stories/NETGEAR-Community-Relaunch-Survey/td-p/1311788 and https://community.netgear.com/t5/Stories/Community-Pages-Update-Feedback/td-p/1311774

I'd try to tell you how to FIND them but that would be a disaster. About the closest way I have managed to get recent post list in the way it was visible before -- it still looks fantastically horrible -- is the enter at the top of ReadyNAS (https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Network-Storage/ct-p/readynas), scroll to the very bottom of the page, and click on "See All >" in the left sidebar (which is at the bottom of "New Posts"), and THEN click on "Discussions" at the top of the list (it stupidly defaults to Posts).

I sure hope someone comes to their senses and undoes this tripe. It's about as bad as any new layout I've ever seen.

OH... and if it gives you a warning banner saying it had a problem posting your thing, DON'T BELIEVE IT. I wound up with like 4 posts of the same thing in that feedback forum as a result of believing it. It would seem that model and tags are optional now, where they didn't seem to be before.

Re: Terrible new forum format

Well, we all hated this forum when we first shifted from readynas.com too. Smiley Frustrated  I'm reporting major issues now, but am going to wait a few days before I comment on the overall look and feel.

There are problems that I think need fixing for sure (highlighting of threads with unread posts or unanswered posts being one, being able to see all threads in the forum in chronological order being another).

One good thing is that I think it is much more usable on my phone.

Re: Terrible new forum format

Well, I'm glad it's working on YOUR phone. Because on MY phone I constantly get prompts to log in over and over and over. And I'm exactly no fan of that mobile filter it places on devices without an option for "desktop" experience.

Yeah, I remember the original transition. But this should have been shaken down a ton more before inflicting it on users.

I had some trouble logging in last night, but didn't notice that today. Though I don't usually use my phone, so there likely are issues I haven't seen.

FWIW, I use a Galaxy S7 with the Chrome browser.

Re: Terrible new forum format

It looks like the URL had an extra space at the end and that caused the linking issue.

Re: Terrible new forum format

The "Read All" on the left is so far below the messages, it's no wonder I missed it.  But, unfortunately, it's "read all unread messages".  If you want to read through several and then go back and add to one, it's gone when you go back.  That's why there is no highlighting of what you've read.  I want a true "read all".

The main thing I disliked when they did the previous format change was the loss of all of the indexing, making all links to messages invalid.  At least I think we didn't lose that again with this version.

That's always been there (on the right side with the old format), but might have been called "see all" before.

It's my normal navigation in this forum (reading all posts I haven't read before).  If I'm pressed for time I go into my profile and see if there are any unread replies on threads where I've already posted.  Unfortunately the highlighting is missing there also (and I have reported that).

There have been other reports from people who want to see all the posts in time order - it'd be good to add your voice to that in the community feedback link.
