Unable to get web admin page to come up

Hello.

I am unable to get the web admin page working. I have found the IP address using the RAIDar software however there is no web admin page found when I type in the IP address.

I recently upgraded from a very old firmware to the latest firmware. I am able to access files however the web admin page is simple gone.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

What firmware were you running before?

What version of RAIDiator did you update to?

My unit is the readynas 600 and I upgraded from firmware 2.00c1-P5 to 4.1.8. The unit has 256 RAM.

Re: Unable to get web admin page to come up

Direct updates from that firmware is too old. I suggested updating to RAIDiator 3.x first here: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=347566#p347566. Did you do that or did you update direct? Too late now though as you can't downgrade to early enough firmware without doing a factory reset (wipes all data, settings, everything).

You'll need to backup your data and do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything).

After doing such a major update I'd suggest backing up your data and doing a factory default anyway as there are multiple benefits to doing so e.g.:
1. Clean setup on latest firmware
2. 16k block size (faster performance, can expand beyond 5TB i.e. with 4x2TB drives)
3. 4k sector partition alignment (crucial for use with some 2TB disks).

If thinking of getting new disks choose disks from the compatibility list for the NV+ (v1). See http://www.readynas.com/hard_disk_hcl

I am embarrassed to say that I screwed up and just upgraded directly. I have done it before without issues( although the firmware was not as old as this unit's firmware was)

The good news is that I don't have any data on the hard drives so there is no risk of destroying any valuable information.

You said there is no way to downgrade the firmware without deleting the data. Can you please let me know how to perform this procedure of downgrading with the factory reset?

Sorry, I should have followed your instructions step-by-step. Please let me know what I should do now to correct the situation.

Thanks.

Mostly a direct update works fine. It's just that because the firmware on your unit was so old, updating the firmware broke Frontview.

That's good.

Not going to suggest how to do that as it's not needed. A factory default (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu) on 4.1.8 will give you a clean setup on the latest firmware and a working Frontview.

Simply do a factory default via the boot menu (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu)

Note that the default password has changed on RAIDiator 4.x. See http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/what_is_the_frontview_default_login_and_password_after_a_factory...

After doing that I'd suggest logging into Frontview, going through the setup wizard (setting new admin password etc). then I'd install the Sparc EnableRootSSH: http://www.readynas.com/?p=4203. A useful add-on that will give you command line access to the NAS via the secure shell. If you're familiar with the linux command line or eager to learn it you'll find that useful. As your unit would be long out of warranty, the support issues surrounding this shouldn't matter as the forum is your support.

Re: Unable to get web admin page to come up

The readynas unit is acting very strange. I recently did a factory default of another unit by depressing the pin hole in the back for 30 seconds while powering on. The LED lights flashed every 5 seconds,etc...

This unit does not seem to be following the normal boot process. The LED lights are not lighting up every 5 seconds, they seem to be lighting up every 10 or 15 seconds. Also, the unit always goes into TFTP Boot mode I believe ( LED 2 and 4 solid green with blue power light flashing) and refuses to turn off when the power button is pushed.

Is there a more drastic measure I can take to get this to do a factory reset?

What model is the other unit?

I have a few 600 models, NV, and NV+ models. Do you have any ideas how to do a more drastic type of factory reset? I never had something like this happen before? Maybe I should swap the hard drives out between the 600 models?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Unable to get web admin page to come up

Users have been finding that factory resets on the 600 on recent firmware hasn't been working.

So the best solution would be to power down the 600, update a NV or NV+ to 4.1.8, after verifying the update was successful, power that unit down as well, remove drives from the NV or NV+ (label order), move the drives from the 600 to to the NV or NV+ running RAIDiator 4.1.8, do a factory default, then move the drives back again. See http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_migrate_disks_over_from_an_existing_readynas_to_another

Keep the order of both sets of drives the same. Doing a factory default on RAIDiator 4.1.8 gives 4k sector alignment which will be useful if you intend to update to using 2TB drives in the future.
