What 2TB drive to choose for the 4200
I recently purchased a ReadyNas 4200. I am now looking into purchasing six more drives for the unit and I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of the drives listed in the HCL? I've looked around and seen reviews for each of the drives and have seen what people have said about a couple of them here on the forum. However, I would really appreciate some feedback from someone that either has the 4200 model or that even just knows if any of these drives are proven solid.
The drives are as follows:
Seagate Constellation ST32000644NS 2 TB 3Gb/s 64 MB
Western Digital RE4 WD2003FYYS 2 TB 3Gb/s 64 MB
Western Digital RE4-GP WD2002FYPS 2 TB 3Gb/s 64 MB (firmware 4.05G05 must be used)
Hitachi Ultrastar A7K2000 HUA722020ALA330 2 TB 3Gb/s 32 MB
The drives are as follows:
Seagate Constellation ST32000644NS 2 TB 3Gb/s 64 MB
Western Digital RE4 WD2003FYYS 2 TB 3Gb/s 64 MB
Western Digital RE4-GP WD2002FYPS 2 TB 3Gb/s 64 MB (firmware 4.05G05 must be used)
Hitachi Ultrastar A7K2000 HUA722020ALA330 2 TB 3Gb/s 32 MB

Re: What 2TB drive to choose for the 4200
FYI Western Digital reports that firmware 4.05G01 is actually a newer version of firmware than 4.05G05, so if your drive has G01, it should also be okay.

Re: What 2TB drive to choose for the 4200
Bad news: it's not okay. Something happened to the Western Digital RE4-GP drive that we purchased, and the whole ReadyNAS stopped working. Removing the Western Digital drive brought the ReadyNAS back online.
Lesson learned: Use only Hitachi Ultrastar.
Are there any logs I can examine to see what happened?

Re: What 2TB drive to choose for the 4200
**EDIT**
Mea culpa; I absent-mindedly failed to realize that the 4200 was enterprise, vs the incredible consumer-level (though higher priced, but better quality) ReadyNAS units. Thus, my comment should only be considered for those with non-enterprise devices!

I have 3 Seagate LP 2TB 5900RPM ST32000542AS drives in my ReadyNAS Pro (along with 1 WD 1TB Green and 2 Seagate 1.5TB ST31500341AS).
The Seagate LP's are running nice & cool...

Re: What 2TB drive to choose for the 4200
zamboni. The 4200 is a 12-bay rackmount NAS. Your consumer drives are completely inappropriate for the 4200. They would fail and fail fast. Only enterprise disks with rotational vibration safeguard are appropriate for use in the 4200. The compatibility list for the 4200 provides a list of drives to choose from.

Re: What 2TB drive to choose for the 4200
As a follow-up: we added a Hitachi Ultrastar and experienced the same kinds of expansion problems that we did with the WD RE4-GP drive. I'm wondering if this is related to the 10gbe rather than to a specific drive. We've connected the device via single gigabit internet; we'll see if this improves reliability.
