AC1900 vs AX5400 gaming router
I currently have the AC1900 Nighthawk router. A friend told me I should upgrade to the AX5400 gaming router. What differences in performace will I see in the two and what other differences will there be? Is it worth the extra money to upgrade?
We have 2 Xboxes, 2 PC's and 2 Nvidia Shields. All are on 4k TV's.
Thanks for the advice.

Re: AC1900 vs AX5400 gaming router
Is the $ worth it? Depends. You might get some lower latency/ping times. You can also choose gaming servers to help with that.
but is it worth the money? That's a loaded question that usually a significant other is better positioned to help with. 🙂
If you're streaming/gaming devices aren't hardwired in, you might find a better benefit from hardwiring in devices than upgrading its wireless. since I doubt the tv's or shields are AX devices.
are you having issues? Or just curious?

We aren't really having any problems, so I guess just curious. LOL. We do have an issue with quite high latency.

Re: AC1900 vs AX5400 gaming router
I have Spectrum internet with a Hitreon Docsis 3.1 Modem and the AC1900 Nighthawk router.
The internet speed is suposed to be
- Download speeds from 100-400 Mbps
- Upload speeds from 5-20 Mbps
I ran a speed test on DSL report and got these results....
151 download
23.6 upload
70 ms ping

Re: AC1900 vs AX5400 gaming router
As much as I despise spectrum (and cox/comcast to be truthful), they actually do a fairly reasonable job of getting full speed to their modems.
What speed do you get directly connected to the modem?
If you're paying for "up to 400mbps", they can usually hit that without issues.
And AC1900 is a speed, not a model. What router do you have?
What firmware is on it?

Re: AC1900 vs AX5400 gaming router
It is the Nighthawk model R7000 with firmware version 1.0.11.110.
I haven't had a chance to test the speed connected directly to the modem.

Re: AC1900 vs AX5400 gaming router
Try speed directly off the modem.
Another thing to try is the R7000 isn't known for the best firmware.
Many agree the most stable/fastest version is the 1.0.9.42 version. If you switch to that, do it over a hardwired connection, factory reset afterwards, and then do a clean install (not from backup).
