Can’t connect to original SSID after factory reset

Hi. All of a sudden I couldn’t connect to my 2.4 or 5G Wi-Fi signals. I ruled out my ISP and modem - they were fine. The router’s SSID’s were visible but ultimately couldn’t connect to them. I did a factory reset on the nighthawk router (R6700v2). I could connect again via the default SSID’s. I could connect after renaming the 5G SSID back to the one I had originally. But the moment I tried to change the name of the 2.4 SSID back to my original one, it makes it so I can no longer connect to both the 2.4 and 5G signals. I have to do a factory reset again to be able to connect at all. Note - I can change the name of the 2.4 SSID and still be able to connect. It’s only when I change the name back to the original one I had before all these problems is when I have connectivity problems. Any tips?

What firmware are you running? 

did you recently upgrade? 

You can try downgrading a version and see if it helps

After my original post, I just updated to firmware version V1.2.0.92_1.0.1 (before this point, it was saying I had the latest firmware). Problem is persisting, although I narrowed it down a bit. After a factory reset, here is the sequence of steps before I get stuck
1) change 5G SSID and password back to original - no problem
2) change 2.4 SSID to original leaving the passcode alone (keep the default password from factory reset). No problems.
3) change my 2.4 passcode to my original one - now can no long connect to both 2.4 or 5G signals. they are visible, just can’t connect. Only option from there is factory reset again.

Yes. Multiple phones and computers.

Have you tried simple alphanumeric strings for both the SSID and the pass-code?  Make sure to use no spaces, punctuation, or special characters for either.

I’m trying pretty hard to maintain my original SSID and passcode so that I don’t have to reconnect the several dozen misc things I had previously connected to it (smart home stuff, media players, cameras, etc). Worst case scenario I just use a different SSID that works just fine. Just mystifying me on why I can set it to what I had before I did the factory reset.

But to answer your question, the SSID I’m trying to use is all alphabet letters. My passcode is all numbers. No punctuation or special characters in either one.

Could have been something changed in the firmware update.  Minimum number of characters or etc.  Occasionally the SSID and pass-code requirements on the router do not match up with the requirements on iOT devices or vice versa.

My original SSID was 5 letter characters. I tried using another SSID also with 5 letter characters also and it worked, so I don’t think that is what’s going on…
