I am trying to login and see what's on my network (and to get my RING devices on the right 2.4 channel) but the website will NOT accept admin and password AND it will not accept my serial number (the "continue" box stays gray after I enter the serial number). I am ready to throw this whole thing away! I have hit the "reset" button, turned it off/on, and NO LUCK. What the heck is next??? I have the Nighthawk R7000 series

I then had to reset all the parameters fresh and now it’s working fine.

are you trying to connect to the router'e GUI at http://192.168.1.1 ?
if so, it should not ask you for any serial numbers, only user and admin which by default are "admin" and "password"

"hit" how, exactly? Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your
model number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Look
for "Factory Settings".

"series"? R7000? R7000P?

That's part of the (generally defective) password recovery scheme
found in recent firmware versions. Disabling it (if you ever get in)
may be the best course.

Yes. I tried that address. I tried all this: By default, your NETGEAR home router's IP address should be assigned as either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. You should also be able to access your router by typingin http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com into your web browser's address bar.
Then when at the page with admin/password, if you click cancel, it wants you to put in your serial number. It won't let me move past that screen.

Reset button= hole on back of box. I read on another thread to try that to reset to factory settings in case I had changed the user name/password combo (though I am nearly certain I never did). And it's just the R7000. It's a few years old....maybe that is the problem. Sigh.

you need to push in the reset hole with a pin for at least 30 seconds until the power LED starts to flash. Then the router is restored to factory settings

What are you trying to login with and how?
Browser? Desktop app? Mobile app?
Connecting to routerlogin.net? An IP address?

It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router. The model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

What mode is the R7000 in? Router or Access Point mode? Don't know the difference? Check the manual for Access Point Mode.

Thank you for the links.
I tried to log in via my computer, via IP address and web addresses. I also downloaded the app to my phone, with no luck either.
It is plugged into a modem (at work right now, and can't recall the name of it--lol....it's white!)
The frustrating part is that it DID just work a few months ago...piece of cake! I've done nothing to since then and now I can't access it.
Thanks for that last link. I will work through that at home after work. I appreciate the help.

When on a Windows PC, open a COMMAND PROMPT an enter IPCONFIG /ALL. Find the network adapter in the output you are using (if more than one) and look at the GATEWAY IP ADDRESS. That is what you should be using in a browser to reach the router.

I’ve also tried everything and cannot access router login.com or router login.net. It was surfing just fine, but I needed to change some settings and I can no longer get into it. I’ve also tried a direct cat 5 wire between port 2 and the computer. Then I’ve tried WiFi and still no login page. I end up with the netgear web site, instead of the router login screen.
Now I held reset for 7 seconds until the power light flashes, to default it to factory settings. After all that I still can’t log into it. It surfs the internet though. Ughh, is there a fix for this? I’ve always been really good about keeping the firmware updated. I suspect the latest firmware is preventing me from being able to log into it.

It would have made more sense to start your own new thread, instead
of re-awakening this months-old, largely unproductive thread.
Think for a moment about how little useful information that that
non-description could possibly convey to the non-psychics in your
audience. If you had actually "tried everything", then there would be

Did you try specifying the router's IP address instead of any of these
names?
"cannot" is not a useful problem description. It does not say what
you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As usual,
showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.

get? Copy+paste is your friend.

LED indicators? Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model
number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look
for the LED descriptions and "Troubleshoot". Especially "Cannot
Log In to the Router".

Antinode - you are a very rude person. If you are representing Netgear, you should be ashamed of yourself. Forget that I even posted anything. I will be all done buying Netgear products in the future. Instead I’ll purchase a $300 router from Asus. Maybe I won’t have to deal with insults from them.

Please help me out. Where are these "insults"? You posted a problem
(non-)description which contained almost no useful information, in an
inappropriate place. I indicated these deficiencies, made some
suggestions, and asked a series of pertinent questions, in an attempt to
make some help possible. All the questions remain unanswered. If you
expect anyone to help you (with more than guesswork) before you supply
some basic information, then I fear that you may be doomed to
disappointment, no matter where you buy your equipment.

You don't say what "will not accept" means, but there is a bug in some devices in Netgear's implementation of password recovery. You can get locked into a closed loop.
If password recovery is enabled, but you have not set the answers to the questions, it keeps sending you back to the beginning of the process because you can't answer the questions.
If the standard factory password (password) does not work, then you will have to factory reset the thing to get back to that. Then either disable password recovery (check the manual for your device) or provide some answers to those questions.

That's an other one where there can be various causes. Sometimes you can recover simply by rebooting your network so that the various components connect in the right order:
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.
If that doesn't get you back in business, then we need to know more. In particular, what is the modem in front of your router? If it is one of those things that an Internet service provider wished on you, then it may also be a router, with ports to wire things to your network and maybe with its own wifi. If so, you may need to reconfigure the modem and/or the Netgear router.
For guidance on that, provide more information and perhaps start a new discussion. When problem solving it is generally a good idea to start a new conversation, after checking old stuff for clues, of course.
That issue crops up all the time and you should be able to find an existing answer that fits your circumstances.

As I said earlier, when problem solving it is generally a good idea to start a new conversation, after checking old stuff for clues. I doubt if you have come up with a unique way of breaking access to your router.
If you do start afresh, you can help people to help you by providing the information suggested in this forum's header:
Subject (Include model number and brief summary)
Model (Recommended - Helps the community give the best answers)
Body (Include additional detail including model version, firmware, OS and environment where relevant.)
They are there for a good reason. The "environment" bit includes the rest of the stuff on your network.
