Thanks for taking my question?
Do ISP still use a Throttling- down of speeds when my new router is installed? Does Netgears speed checker (NightHawk - bitdefender) tell me if throttling?
Does implementing a VPN improve speed or security?
Also my router is not listed above.
AC1750- R6400v2 Dual 2.5 and %GHz
Thanks for you help.
Peter

You can get the latest firmware from here: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/R6400v2.aspx#download
Usually, ISPs throttle specific protocols, like File Sharing, and not the whole spectrum. This means that your speedtests may come out just fine, but if you start a File Sharing download, it can be throttled. ISPs often use DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) to look into and throttle accordingly

Re: ISP Throttling
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for Smart WiFi Router products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with General and Smart Wifi (WN and R6000 thru R6400 Series) routers:

Please use this link to the main forum product list to review and choose where to make your posts.

Re: ISP Throttling
Are you having an issue/problem?
You're description is a bit vague so I'm not sure if you're having a problem or just curious.

Re: ISP Throttling
Thank you for your reply. I am curious. If true, how do I measure the impact, if any.
Also, I tried to find the firmware version of my router (AC1750 R6400 v2) but could not find it. Can you tell me how to find it.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your reply and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
