Ping bottle neck modem killing R9000
Firmware 1.0.5.42 R9000 Nighthawk X10
Started getting intermittent ping spikes from a stable 30 to stable 2000 to stable 4000 back down to stable 60. Entire time getting consistent 650-950 down. Figured it was ISP, they fixed it a few times but issue always lapsed within the hour. 10 ISP calls and a tech visit later with no change I just sat with a tracert, a google.com -t ping, and a -t ping to my router for an hour. After changing hardware configuration (cat to router, cat to laptop, different wifi connections etc.) the tracert showed the bottleneck at my router. Decided to just play from modem.
Roomate had a sub gig upload to a drive that was taking 4.6 days on wifi so just hardwired to router.
This resulted in my modem practically dying. Ping on directly connected device shot to 5000 and held. Only resolved once I shut off the router and reset the modem.
Is this like a setting on my router? Why is it completely killing my signal under the most insignificant loads. Figured it was a longshot but I cant find anything on this issue.
Thanks! Can add CMD texts if anyone wants.

Re: Ping bottle neck modem killing R9000
This was very disjointed.
so you have increased ping times both on the router and directly to the modem.
What modem do you have?
Have you tried swapping for an ISP modem? Or a different one to confirm if its a modem or a line issue?
Yes, you've had lots of calls and one tech visit but tech visits usually just check the wiring from the hub to the home. They don't actually check the hub or its condition.
Take a read through this blog post on all the user had to do to get a decent connection.

Re: Ping bottle neck modem killing R9000
I only have increased ping times on modem connection when there is any type of demand on the router.
Have tried 3 other modem router combos. Issue with nighthawk.
Surfboard 6190.
And yes they did check wiring from hub to home and ran diagnostics off of my modem, an ISP modem, and my coax.
Would not be posting here if it wasn't a router issue.
Do not really understand what was disjointed about that. Pretty straightforward.
CMTS logs are fine.

Re: Ping bottle neck modem killing R9000
Just for reference I went and bought a cheap target router to make sure.
Absolutely no issues, modem log still clean. Ping is stable.
Great and all just love the nighthawk. Miss the functionality already.

You might check out Voxel's firmware for your R9000.
Here is the link: https://www.voxel-firmware.com/Downloads/Voxel/html/index.html
Be sure and review the README folder in the upper right corner.
Usually a discussion about the firmware over on Small Net Builders forum here:
