So sorry, it's actually a D7000. Saw the warning on the Telegraph website with a photo that looked like my router, and remembered mine was a '7000'. Sorry to waste your time, and thanks for your help.

Does the error message say the file format is .img?

Re: R7000 1.0.7.6 firmware update
Note that Safari by default will attempt to trigger opening of a file after it is downloaded. You can't open the file, you need to upload it.
Also which firmware are you updating from?
Please make sure you are using a PC/Mac connected to your router via Ethernet to attempt the upgrade.
Have you tried other web browsers?
Have you tried rebooting the router and trying the Upload again?
Have you tried doing a factory reset then attempting the upload again?

Re: R7000 1.0.7.6 firmware update
I downloaded the R7000 1.07.6 security firware update, but when loading I received the message: " This firmware file is incorrect. Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product". Unfortunately, I don't see an update to the frimware for the R6700 Nighthawk I purchased at Costco and now it is out of the warranty period.
Is there a security fix out there for the R6700??

Re: R7000 1.0.7.6 firmware update
I found the beta R6700 firmware update V1.0.0.26_10.0.29 onthe Netgear site and downloaded it per the Security Vulnerability:VU#582384 instructions. It did load so I am hoping I am now running with the Netgear fix. It seems to be working fine.

Hi, yes the error message says 'Please assign the correct file. The file format is *.img' The file on the Netgear site is a '.chk' file.

Re: R7000 1.0.7.6 firmware update
Hi Searay, i picked up the firmware through a link on Daily Telegraph website. There is an article on the problem - I think if you search 'Netgrear' you will come to it. I imagine you can also just search the Netgrear site. Arthur

Re: R7000 1.0.7.6 firmware update
Hi mdgm,
I'm not sure how I upload the file rather than open it? Will give it a go. Similar outcome on Google though.
Current firmware is v1.0.1.44_1.0.1
Connection is by ethernet, but through a broadband extender - does it need to be direct?
I have tried only safari and google.
Haven't tried re-booting or re-setting factory setting yet.
Diificult to see how it can be web browser / re-boot / re-set, as the issue seems to relate to the type of file?
Thanks for your help!

Re: R7000 1.0.7.6 firmware update
Are you using an R7000 router? Your firmware version you state above would be VERY old or perhaps you have a different router.

Re: R7000 1.0.7.6 firmware update
That's a good point. The R7000 firmware is only for the R7000. If you have a different device it'll be using different firmware.

The community is here for questions like this. It's not a waste of time at all.
We'd much rather you ask questions here and get the answers you need rather than continuing to spend a lot of time trying things which aren't going to work.
