R7000 5G Band is not showing

Ask :

My 5G band on my R7000 firmware V1.0.11.126_10.2.112 is suddenly disappear. I tried most of the similar solution in the community but same result.

1. I reboot the router by power off and un-plug the power wait 3 minutes and turn back on

2. I restore the router to factory setting by go to the router page -> advance --> Administration --> backup setting -> Erase

3. Enable Disable smart connect

4. Enable / Disable SSID broadcast on 5G wireless network

Any suggestion that i might missed?

ps. the led on 5G is sometimes solid, sometimes blinking

Thanks

There have been half a dozen new releases since your firmware:

R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.136 - NETGEAR Support

What tells you that the 5 GHz wifi has disappeared?

That is a sign that the wiofi is working. Blinkin = traffic.

Do you have Smart Connect enabled?

If so, you will not see separate SSIDs for 5GHz.

As the manual puts it:

Smart Connect selects the fastest WiFi band for your device. For Smart Connect to work, the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands must use the same WiFi network name (SSID) and network key (password). That means that when you connect to the router with WiFi, you see only one SSID that connects to both bands.

Re: R7000 5G Band is not showing

About the new firmware, i tried to do “check update” from the router and it says firmware is updated. Does it means i need to manually install the firmware?

I cant see any 5G network on my devices to connect to, not in my phone, wife phone, my 2 laptops. However i can see my other access point 5G network, so i assume its not the device, but the router.

Smart connect is disabled, still i cant see the 5G network from the R7000

Yes. If your first message was correct on the firmware version, install the firmware manually.

The router's on board check is not reliable.

Your first message said "Enable Disable smart connect".

Which is it?

You will not see any 5 GHz wifi networks from the R7000 if you have Smart Connect enabled.

Have you looked at the status of these devices to see which wifi band they are talking to? They may have connected to 5 GHz wifi without you know it.

Re: R7000 5G Band is not showing

Sorry for the English, I tried to turn On, and then turn off the smart connect to check wether it will solve the issue. but its not.

I check the connected device on the router page, I can see 2 devices connect to 5G band. 1 Phone (rarely used) and 1 TV Box. It seems these 2 devices still remember the connection and automatically connect when the signal is available.

But the other devices I have on me, I can not see the option to choose 5G band.

I tried to share password by QR code from the phone that connected to 5G, and scan the QR code with my other phone, it says Unable to join the Network "Netgear63 5G" (My SSID)

TV Box? Most TV stuff is 2.4 GHz.

But the fact that some things connect t the 5 GHz suggests that the problem is not with the router but with the devices.

Have you told these mobile devices to forget that they were connected to the wifi and then set the connection up afresh.

I still don't know if you have Smart Connect turned on.

My smart connect is turned off.

My TV box is Xiaomi TV box

My phone is able to pick up a 5G band from my other access point is 2nd floor but can not see the router 5G band on the 1st floor, 1 meter away from the router.

When other things connect to the wifi, your TV box for example, it seems more logical to look at the wifi clients than to blame the wifi source.

I can puzzled that you can see a "rarely used" phone as being connected. It was on and connected to the wifi when you looked?

You told the phone to "forget" the wifi connection to the R7000?

Did you find time to update the firmware?

Have you tried a router reset?

How do I reset my Orbi WiFi System to factory default settings? - NETGEAR Support

The factory reset is more a case of "witchcraft" than a technically informed solution, but it does seem to fix problems, especially on the wifi front. It is also the first thing that Netgear support is likely to recommend.

You can reduce the hassle of reconfiguring your router's settings by creating a configuration backup before you reset.

How do I back up the configuration settings on my Orbi WiFi System? - NETGEAR Support

Then if something is still broken after the reset, and the new firmware has not fixed it, you can restore the device to the pre-reset state.

You could even try restoring the settings even if the reset has fixed the problems, but be prepared for that to bring back your problems.

Re: R7000 5G Band is not showing

I dont tried to update firmware yet, because i dont have a laptop with RJ45 port, netgear recommends to do update formware using cable connection.

The rarely used phone : yes it was on and connected, i can see its connected from phone itself, i even tried to share the 5G wifi connection using QR code generated from this rarely used phone, hoping that my other phone can connect to the 5G network, but it’s unsuccessful.

Yup i tried to forget the R7000 network from my phone, still can not see the 5G

I tried to reboot, and i tried to reset to factory setting the router, also unsuccessful.

If the client is facing the issue? I have 4 devices, all can not see the 5G from this R7000 router, but can see 5G wifi from other access point, so kinda strange.

Re: R7000 5G Band is not showing

I Finally at the latest firmware on this model Firmware Version
V1.0.12.216_10.2.122

However seem my apple device (2 iPhones, 1 laptops) can not see the 5G network.

I tried sharing the wifi connection by using my android device (which can connect to the 5G network) by scanning the QR code generated by the android device. But my iOS shows "connection unsuccessful"

Any other way I should do?

Re: R7000 5G Band is not showing

Try factory resetting the router and setup from scratch with a ethernet connected PC?

Re: R7000 5G Band is not showing

I will try to find some time doing it.

It's strange tho, If I want to blame my iOS device, this same iOS device can see and connect another 5G band from another wifi router (TP Link).

If I want to blame the R7000 Router, my other android device can see and connect to R7000 5G band, even my TV can see and connect to it.

Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:
