Maybe different router versions or series.
I have Access Control turned on. Have you tried that, it was a recommended fix for 128, but it didn't solve the problem for me.

As I mentioned above, '128 was UNstable for me when I installed it over '126 without a reset but resetting first left me with a stable '128.
Maybe that's what's needed with '130. Has anyone tried that?

@Portwey84 I've been having the same issue with the router showing that there aren't any new firmware updates available; it's been happening for at least a year. It's inexcusable.

@SDan67 - Does '130 behave any better after a factory reset and manual re-entry of your configuration?
I just noticed something strange in my R7000 logs that spontaneously started 2 days after I installed '130 without a factory reset. The WAN DHCP changed from occurring every 6 hours to now continuing to occur every 30 minutes (for the last 3 days). This shows on the log as an entry "[Internet connected] IP address: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX" followed by "[Time synchronized with NTP server]".
I also suspect WiFi dropouts during WiFi cell phone calls and dropouts with our hard-wired Ooma VOIP, so I'm ready to try a factory reset re-install of '130.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.130 - Just showed up Jan 6, 2022
I have encountered two problems with this version.
1. After router is reset to default setting, I can get fast wifi and lan, but if I power it down then up again, wifi 5 gets really slow, unless I factory reset it again without powering it down.
2. Unable to set the 5G channel. The channel select just doesn't exist.
The worst part is, I cannot go back to previous firmware from UI.
Any suggestions?

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.130 - Just showed up Jan 6, 2022
There's no excuse for Netgear's sloppy QC on this product's FW.
Sounds like you have a bad install of '130. Try a factory reset followed by a fresh install of '130 over your current '130. Never restore configuration from a backup file because that seems to always cause problems. Instead, only manually enter configuration.
I've seen various weird things happen with the UI but when I logout and back in, they go away. I've never seen the missing 5GHz channel problem.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.130 - Just showed up Jan 6, 2022
Thanks @Bill-D
Unfortunately, the webUI does not allow me to update firmware from 130 to 130. This is the message I get
This firmware file is incorrect! Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product.
And I have figured out how to reproduce the problem. I am running R7000 along side with R7800 (main router).
BTW, there is no 5G band selection options no matter how many times I factory reset the router,
My laptop is within 1 meter of the router
1. Factory reset, complete the welcom/wizard, default 5G link speed is 1300Mb
2. Enable guest wifi network on both 2.4G and 5G and apply changes, at this point, 5G link speed is still 1300Mb
3. Change 2.4 and 5G SSID, and add security to both 2.4 and 5G, apply changes, 5G link speed is still 1300Mb
4. In advanced menu, Lan setting, set router IP to 192.168.1.2, and disable DHCP, apply changes, 5G link speed is changed to 278Mb.
However, if change the sequences of these steps to the following:
1, 4, 2, 3, the 5G link speed will stay at 1300Mb.
How can this happen?

I think your router has corrupted firmware. I've not had this situation, but this article may help:

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.130 - Just showed up Jan 6, 2022
Thanks @Bill-D
I was not able to use tftp to flash the 130, (power lit never flashes, always solid, and tftp says connection failed or something).
But I am successfully flashed 126 via nmrpflash. After going back to 126 I was able to see the channel selection for 5G, then I upgraded to 130 via web UI, and tried the above step 1,2,3,4 and speed stayed! Thanks, the problem is resolved.

Glad you're back up. Your experience makes me wonder how many other random R7000 problems might be due to corrupted FW. You would expect NG validates the FW after its installed. I'm soooo tired of this R7000. Anybody tuned in here have a suggestion what to replace it with?

I know how you feel. Netgear's software (UI) really sucks but the hardward and the performance just can't be beaten.
I had a TP-Link AC1900 A9, the UI is better, but range and performance is worse than R7000.
I also had an Asus AC-2900 RT86U, performance is worse then Nergear R7800. That is why I'm running R7800 with R7000 now.

Well I've finally made my choice and I've bought a TP-Link AX6600 GX90 to replace my R7000. I'm waiting for it to arrive. Expensive, but now my Wife works permanently from home, I thought I'd try a Tri-band router. I already have a WiFi 6 enabled desktop computer, so I should once I get the new router up and running, be able to at least take advantage of it's compatibility with the new router. I have fibre to the premises straight through an ONT, no copper lines anywhere.

I agree, I won't buy a netgear router anymore.
The interface is very slow. Noting changed since I bought it. I don't understand what they put in new firmware versions.
The support from netgear is ridicuslous. They terminate support after a year? I bought QNAP NAS and i get support after years.
The worst routers in the world.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.130 - Just showed up Jan 6, 2022
Hello There,
Well, I spent the hole weekend on this issue, so far please find the scenario and outcome, I hope this is going to be helpful to someone.
Scenario: Factory Reset the Modem and install Firmware .130
Outcome: So far I haven't faced any major issues during the process to factory reset the modem and during the installation of firmware .130
- Reset factory was smooth and no issues
- So far during the firmware update it took around 5minutes plus the automatic modem reboot during the process, I think it can be under the "normal" behavior.
- Once the Router came online some features wasn't available anymore:
- "Anywhere" connect
- VPN configuration
- 5G Channel selection
- I powered off the router and waited 5mins aprox. (too much time for the power cycle, but I just got busy in something else)
- After powerd on the router the only feature unavailable was "Anywhere" connect.
- During the network set up I got below intermitent issues:
- After changing a name device I lost the webserver and cannot login to the router. (Rebooting the router fixed the issue)
- Android application worked once then I got the message "logon timeout"
After 24 hours the router looks stable, but I have the same thinking, this firmware is not having a good quality.
Good Luck guys!!
Best Regards.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.130 - Just showed up Jan 6, 2022
I own 3 R7000 routers and look after an additional 3. I must confess, I've never had any problems after updating the firmware (with one exception - the "attached devices" not registering correctly after FW v1.0.9.42). It's one of the (very) few Netgear products that doesn't suffer from the numerous hardware "versions", even after its long and distinguished continuing service life.
However, Netgear technical support.................................................. (ugh!)

Check my post, I had the similar issue, fixed by reflashing the firmware using nmrpflash.
Good luck!

I had a Netgear R7000 that would just stop working at least once a day. The power cycles got to be annoying, so I decided to get another. I need the OpenVPN, which I know works... after a long time of being out of date.
The 5 gHz would just disappear. My phone would drop to cellular data, so I didn't notice on there. My Chromebook would just lose Internet. When I checked on either of them, the 2 gHZ router was there, but not the 5 gHz. A minute later, it would reappear, and auto-connect.
I returned it and got another. This one might be having the same problem, just faster, so I don't notice it as much. My Linux box has lots of logs about the Link coming ready, which I assume is a reconnect that I don't notice.
Is all of Netgear destined to be junk? I already bumped up to the $179 R7000 instead of the cheaper ones.
Who else has OpenVPN?

Just bought the abovementioned router a few weeks ago; and am having the same @%%$# issue that you all have talked about. Will Netgear ever work this out? I have to reset the router nightly.
Sounds like I may just be grousing before trying to return it and getting a different brand...

I'll answer you with more honesty than you'll probably get from elsewhere.
First question - probably not.
Your 'grousing' isn't unreasonable and I think you've pretty much answered yourself on that. I put up with the R7000 for two years but I got rid of it because now my Wife works permanently from home, the R7000 basically just could no longer handle what it was reasonably expected to do. My Wife needs a stable WiFi connection because we don't want a fixed ethernet wire running halfway round the house. Our replacement tri-band router suffers no such issues.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.11.130 - Just showed up Jan 6, 2022
@SDan67 I bought myself a TP-Link AX6600 GX90 gaming router. I'm not a gamer, but it is a tri-band router. I've only had it a week and it's proved itself already insofar as my Wife can now work wirelessly on a separate 5ghz WiFi band without me destroying her connection when I connect via my WiFi6 enabled desktop, which is exactly what was happening with the R7000 when that was running. Yes, she could have been permanently connected via ethernet, but that would have taken some cable running and I cannot be bothered with that.
At the end of the day the R7000 was useful to a point and when it worked, it generally worked well, but sadly NG's dumb firmware updates literally seemed pointless and did in fact cause me issues in the end. The Netgear browser GUI is in my view, appalling and the Nighthawk App isn't exactly cutting edge. But what should we really expect from a now ten year old router design?
