Just updated the Firmware of my R7000 to the latest 1.0.9.10 from 1.0.9.6 and it cut my download speed from 178MBps on all my devices ( MacBook Pro, iPhone7, iPad Air2) to less than 80MBps. Full powercycled the router and all of my devices and still could not get over 90.
Reloaded the previouse version of the firmware 1.0.9.6 and BOOM I'm back up to almost 180 MBps. Not sure what the issue is but I reccomed everyone hold off for now.

Did you reset the router to factory settings after the firmware flash?
New firmware sometimes introduces changes that are not compatible with the old configuration.
So a factory reset is the first thing to try if you have problems with new firmware.
First note down the settings – screen grabs can help here.
No guarantee that you wouldn't see the same problem, but a reset has solved similar issues in the past.

Same here! The download speed has dropped from 400 Mbits/s to 230 Mbits/s. After downgrading the firmware to 1.0.7.12 I got the best speed. Firmware 1.0.9.6 also gives a significant speed drop.

Did you "factory reset"?
This is important information in several ways. First it will help other users to decide to try it. Second it will make it harder for Netgear to ignore you.

Re: R7000 SLOWS WAY DOWN with Firmware 1.0.9.10 went back to 1.0.9.6 problem solved. Hold off on upd
No I did not try either of those options, “factory reset” or “updating the QoS database”. I will try them both after work today. I know how to update the QoS and I’m cool with that. Question I have now is if I do a factory reset, doesn’t that mean I will lose all my current settings? Such as network names, preferences etc? Spent a lot of time with initial set up t get things just how I like them, not sure if I want to spend all that time agian. Will try the QoS option see what that does. For the record I’m only paying for 150 service. So to be getting 180 wirelessly mean that 1.9.0.6 is working great on the speed front. Only issue I have had with 1.9.0.6 is it drops my Android powered smart tv occasionally. But speed wise it’s great.

Yeah, I would give the QoS option a try before doing a factory resetting too. Also, I have experienced(with Android based devices, but don't know if it is exclusive to those), that after doing a firmware update on the router, deleting the saved wifi profile on the android devices, like your phone and re-discover the wifi network and re-enter the network code, made the wifi connection run better and more stable/reliable.
Let us know what you find out! 😉

Unfortunately that is one of the painful consequences of a reset. There is no easy way to export the settings in a human friendly format. I use (Alt + Print Screen) grabs.
You could backup the current settings and then restore them after the reset, but you then run the risk of restoring the broken settings.
Still, it is better than buying a new router!

Can you guys verify if you have enabled Circle?
If you have it enabled, kindly disable it for the mean time and see if it will work. You may disable it under Parental Controls section.

Re: R7000 SLOWS WAY DOWN with Firmware 1.0.9.10 went back to 1.0.9.6 problem solved. Hold off on upd
Ok so I put almsot 2 hrs into this and heres the curent status. For whatever reason I was not able to update the QoS datbase until after I did a full factory reset. The option to do so simply wasnt there. I will say though that after the resest I was only able to see the "update" option for the QoS Database when switching the QoS feature on and off. Also I did multiple speed test durign the process both wired and wirelessly on my laptop, phone and tablet. SO When I did the factory reset it did roll the router to an older firmware (forgive me as I cant rember what version it was, but it did instantly update itself to the 1.0.9.10 right away, then I updated the QoS Database. When connected via ethernet cable (laptop only) my speed was consistleny over 170 (im paying for 150), no matter the firmware version or QoS Database. With just the New Firmare after factory reset My laptop was the only one that wirelessly would consistenlty get to 170-175. But iPhone7 and iPad Air2 only got to 90-100. This is an improvement from the initial update. After the QoS update I was now getting a consistent 150-155 on both phone and tablet. Agian this is an improvement. So just as a gee wiz I reloaded 1.0.9.6 and just like that all devices were back gettign consistenly over 175 and up. QoS database is updated. So for now I believe updatign the QoS Database was very helpfull when working with the newest Firmware. But somethiing is still not correct. So will give it some time before I try 1.0.9.10. agian.

I've been having this issue since they released version "1.0.8.34". My internet is 1000Mbps Down - 50Mbps Up, but these newer firmwares are caping my speeds out to 400 Down/40 Up. I've factory reset many times, and the speeds are 100% fine on the modem. The only firmware that seems to hold up to my speeds is version "1.0.7.12".

Manuals for some newer hardware recommend turning off QoS for Gbps connections, probably on the grounds that you don't need it at those speeds.

Re: R7000 SLOWS WAY DOWN with Firmware 1.0.9.10 went back to 1.0.9.6 problem solved. Hold off on upd
I have not tried the latest Firmware 1.0.9.12 yet. It only says "security fixes" it maks no mention of any bug or performance fixes/updates. And as no releases were made between 1.0.9.10 and 1.0.9.12 they clearly didn't address or update anything since 1.0.9.10 that woudl lead me to believe the issue will be resolved with the newest 1.0.9.12 update. I'm therefore a little heistant to try it. I may give it a shot later this weekend when I have time to tinker with it and/or uninstall it back to 1.0.9.6 if necessary. Loosing 20% or more of my speed is not acceptable.

Hi,
I have tried a lot of firmwares and also solution that is posted on https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R7000-SLOWS-WAY-DOWN-with-Firmware-1-0-9-10-...
1.0.9.12_1.2.23 -> very bad performance I loose more than 150 mbps
1.0.9.10_1.2.21 -> the same problem. Dropping more than 150 mbps
1.0.9.6_1.2.19 -> performance is better but I still loose download speed 20 mbps
1.0.7.12_1.2.5 -> performance is better but I still losse download speed 20 mbps
1.0.7.10_1.2.3 -> performance is good.
I have tested it with Cable and Wifi.
Please check what is going wrong after version 1.0.7.10_1.2.3 ?
Regards
Antonio

That makes your complaint somewhat pointless.
Try it and then see what you experience.

Re: R7000 SLOWS WAY DOWN with Firmware 1.0.9.10 went back to 1.0.9.6 problem solved. Hold off on upd
Have you tried to manually type the speed of your wifi in the QoS setup menu?
As others has eluted to, having QoS disabled, seems to not mean 100% disabled, as the wifi speeds are still affected when updating the QoS database. I don't currently know if this is a firmware bug or not, but seems we can not ignore the QoS feature, regardless if we have it disabled or not. So I suggest to play around with it.
Especially people on +400Mb connections might wanna try manually type in their speeds in the QoS menu, as the default/automatic settings may not work optimally for them! 😉
And then please let us know your findings! 🙂

Re: R7000 SLOWS WAY DOWN with Firmware 1.0.9.10 went back to 1.0.9.6 problem solved. Hold off on upd
Hi Mr_DJ,
I have tried to set it manually also.
My internet speed is 400 mbps download and 40 mbps upload.
With the new version 1.0.9.12 I only get something like 270 mbps.
I also reset it to default factory. Nothing helped.
The highest speed is with firmware 1.0.7.10_1.
I am now back on the old firmware.

Re: R7000 SLOWS WAY DOWN with Firmware 1.0.9.10 went back to 1.0.9.6 problem solved. Hold off on upd
Mr. Kenward,
My complaint is 100% valid. With 1.0.9.10 my performance slowed down, ( I even tried all the reccomendations, Master restet's, QoS update and settigns, etc) so I rolled it back to the prior version and problem was solved. My compliant is not with the latest version... Yes the latest version might resolve the issue, that is called a resolution. When I have time I will give it a shot. I have however already listed my reason for not being to optomistic Therefore it does not render my compliant " somewhat pointless"
On a side note: As your post carries the tags of a D6400 and several power line adaptors and this thread is specifically only refrencing a R7000 router, one could call your opinion somewhat pointless as you don't even own the same hardware to confirm or deny anything in this thread.
Try using the same hardware refrenced above and then see what you experiance 😉

You do not have to own something to be able to read about that hardware as the messages flow by on this forum. Fortunately, I have somehow managed to help plenty of people who have had problems with very different hardware from my own set up.
This is partly because many of the issues that come across here affect more than one device.
For example, post-flash problems have clobbered users of various devices. There have been rather too many following an email that Netgear put out last week.
Then there is the generic issue of "blockages" between modem and router – speed out of the router is much slower than the speed out of the modem.
To assume that new firmware will not do anything without even trying it is not going to get you very far, especially when you have been around long enough to know that Netgear is vague when it writes release notes.
No one is going to go out of their way to help you if you don't try the most obvious measures, like using firmware that people have suggsted that you deploy.
PS Please try to avoid multiple edits of messages that you post. I received three or four email notifications of your reply.

Antonio_Cardile: I had the same experience (or even worse) .... I also have a 400 / 40 connection .... after moving to 1.0.9.10, it dropped to around 155 .... rolled back to 1.0.9.6 and it improved to the mid-200's .... then went back to 1.0.7.10 ... after doing so, I was back to 400+. So hopefully, they can get a "new" one out that won't choke the speeds down.........
