R7000 SLOWS WAY DOWN with Firmware 1.0.9.10 went back to 1.0.9.6 problem solved. Hold off on update
Just updated the Firmware of my R7000 to the latest 1.0.9.10 from 1.0.9.6 and it cut my download speed from 178MBps on all my devices ( MacBook Pro, iPhone7, iPad Air2) to less than 80MBps. Full powercycled the router and all of my devices and still could not get over 90.
Reloaded the previouse version of the firmware 1.0.9.6 and BOOM I'm back up to almost 180 MBps. Not sure what the issue is but I reccomed everyone hold off for now.
Did anybody tried the latest firmware 1.0.9.12?

Did you reset the router to factory settings after the firmware flash?
New firmware sometimes introduces changes that are not compatible with the old configuration.
So a factory reset is the first thing to try if you have problems with new firmware.
First note down the settings – screen grabs can help here.
No guarantee that you wouldn't see the same problem, but a reset has solved similar issues in the past.

Same here! The download speed has dropped from 400 Mbits/s to 230 Mbits/s. After downgrading the firmware to 1.0.7.12 I got the best speed. Firmware 1.0.9.6 also gives a significant speed drop.

Did you "factory reset"?
This is important information in several ways. First it will help other users to decide to try it. Second it will make it harder for Netgear to ignore you.

Have you tried the solution in this thread? Link = https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/After-update-the-firmare-the-wifi-speed-is-very-slow-R7000/m-p/1383211#M67726
No I did not try either of those options, “factory reset” or “updating the QoS database”. I will try them both after work today. I know how to update the QoS and I’m cool with that. Question I have now is if I do a factory reset, doesn’t that mean I will lose all my current settings? Such as network names, preferences etc? Spent a lot of time with initial set up t get things just how I like them, not sure if I want to spend all that time agian. Will try the QoS option see what that does. For the record I’m only paying for 150 service. So to be getting 180 wirelessly mean that 1.9.0.6 is working great on the speed front. Only issue I have had with 1.9.0.6 is it drops my Android powered smart tv occasionally. But speed wise it’s great.

Yeah, I would give the QoS option a try before doing a factory resetting too. Also, I have experienced(with Android based devices, but don't know if it is exclusive to those), that after doing a firmware update on the router, deleting the saved wifi profile on the android devices, like your phone and re-discover the wifi network and re-enter the network code, made the wifi connection run better and more stable/reliable.
Let us know what you find out! ;-)

I've been having this issue since they released version "1.0.8.34". My internet is 1000Mbps Down - 50Mbps Up, but these newer firmwares are caping my speeds out to 400 Down/40 Up. I've factory reset many times, and the speeds are 100% fine on the modem. The only firmware that seems to hold up to my speeds is version "1.0.7.12".

Manuals for some newer hardware recommend turning off QoS for Gbps connections, probably on the grounds that you don't need it at those speeds.

QoS was never enabled to begin with.

Have you tried to manually type the speed of your wifi in the QoS setup menu?
As others has eluted to, having QoS disabled, seems to not mean 100% disabled, as the wifi speeds are still affected when updating the QoS database. I don't currently know if this is a firmware bug or not, but seems we can not ignore the QoS feature, regardless if we have it disabled or not. So I suggest to play around with it.
Especially people on +400Mb connections might wanna try manually type in their speeds in the QoS menu, as the default/automatic settings may not work optimally for them! ;-)
And then please let us know your findings! :-)
Hi Mr_DJ,
I have tried to set it manually also.
My internet speed is 400 mbps download and 40 mbps upload.
With the new version 1.0.9.12 I only get something like 270 mbps.
I also reset it to default factory. Nothing helped.
The highest speed is with firmware 1.0.7.10_1.
I am now back on the old firmware.
Hi,
I have tried a lot of firmwares and also solution that is posted on https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R7000-SLOWS-WAY-DOWN-with-Firmware-1-0-9-10-went-back-to-1-0-9-6/td-p/1383306
1.0.9.12_1.2.23 -> very bad performance I loose more than 150 mbps
1.0.9.10_1.2.21 -> the same problem. Dropping more than 150 mbps
1.0.9.6_1.2.19 -> performance is better but I still loose download speed 20 mbps
1.0.7.12_1.2.5 -> performance is better but I still losse download speed 20 mbps
1.0.7.10_1.2.3 -> performance is good.
I have tested it with Cable and Wifi.
Please check what is going wrong after version 1.0.7.10_1.2.3 ?
Regards
Antonio

Having the same problem with V1.0.9.10 and V1.0.9.12 the Wifi slows down to 43-44Mbps max. It doesnt matter what the Wifi device is, Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8+, iPad Air 1, and Air 2 in the house all max at that speed.
When I downgrade back to V1.0.9.6_1.2.19 the download speeds max 215-230Mbps (I have the 200Mbps plan with Comcast)
I do not use the QoS feature, it was disabled before the updates.
Access Control is not enabled.
What gives?
