ReadySHARE Printer Utility, download, etc.

NETGEAR   Nighthawk X4S AC2600 Smart WiFi Router Model RC8700

Page 135 of my manual states to download the ReadySHARE Printer Utility I need to go to NETGEAR.com/readyshare Pressing that link returns https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R7800/www.netgear.com/readyshare

and a page displaying simply "Not Found"

I would like to "Download the PC Installer and get started, the utility for Windows computers" so that I can get the "utility to display as NETGEAR USB Control Center on my computer".

How do I go about doing this?

Not sure that I can understand where things are going wrong at your end.

I can find no reference to a RC8700 in the Netgear system. Perhaps you mean R7800.

Is that what you have?

Visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

That page will also have any software and firmware for your device.

The ReadySHARE Printer Utility Version 1.36 (Windows) is there.

Nighthawk X4S R7800 | AC2600 Smart WiFi Router | NETGEAR Support

That should be enough to get you going.

Re: ReadySHARE Printer Utility, download, etc.

Thanks. I'll try this.

Sorry I let this get away. Major surgery to my wife to deal with.

Will get back asap.

Thanks for understanding.

Re: ReadySHARE Printer Utility, download, etc.

I'm back...

Downloaded ReadySharePrinter_setup_v1.36.exe and installed it.

Now I get an app window with little more than question marks (see Ntgear Shared Printer Screenshot.jpg Photo link)

Did I do something wrong?

The Photo

Netgear Shared Printer Screenshot.jpg is not the screenshot I made. I'll try again.

Probaby not.

Do you have something connected to the USB port on your router?

I still have no idea what Netgear device you are trying to set up. Probably R7800, but that just a guess based on "X4S AC2600", which tells us about the wifi technology rather than the model number.

Here is what I see:

USB Control CenterUSB Control Center

Try clicking the bit where "Tools" should be. Here it has "Language"  options. The top one is "English".

Re: ReadySHARE Printer Utility, download, etc.

Download ReadySharePrinter_setup_v1.36.zip

Install ReadySharePrinter_setup_v1.36.exe (and stipulate language = English) on computer hard wired by USB cable to NETGEAR R7800 router USB1. .

Screen shot (see attached) showing: Installation obvious (under Recently added [Win10])

On far tight NETGEAR USB Control Center window with [Connect], [Disconnect], [Network Scanner] buttons all greyed out.

Still not able to print:

Samsung ML-2850 Series (“USB002 Offline: 10 documents waiting”)

Unplug USB from NETGEAR USB1 and plug into USB2 and try again.

Samsung ML-2850 Series (“USB002 Offline: 11 documents waiting”)

Q: Why is window all greyed out?

Q: Why can’t I get the printer to come online?

What is "computer hard wired by USB cable".

The idea of ReadySHARE Printer is that you share the printer attached to the router by USB.

Is that what you did?

It has nothing to do with a USB connection between the computer and the printer.

Have you installed the printer and its drivers in all of the PCs on the network?

You might get to the solution quicker if you answered questions.

Re: ReadySHARE Printer Utility, download, etc.

What is "computer hard wired by USB cable".

Big mistake on my part. Previously, for about a month now, the (my wife's) computer upstairs had been WiFi connected to our internet provider vis-a-vis the NETGEAR router I'd bought. A few days ago the WiFi connection suddenly was lost and I temporarily reconnected it by 'hard wiring' an ethernet cable, from the router, up the stairs, through a few rooms and to where she has her computer setup.  (Getting back the WiFi connection is what my next forum issue will be about.) In the meantime I'd brought up the issue of allowing her printer access and wanted to be able to deal with, and close that issue.

I had the printer issue on my mind and incorrectly changed "hard wired by internet cable" to "hard wired by USB cable". My mistake.

Is that what you did?  Yes

It has nothing to do with a USB connection between the computer and the printer. Correct

The idea of ReadySHARE Printer is that you share the printer attached to the router by USB.

Is that what you did?

Yes. the computer is attached to the router by ethernet cable; the printer is attached to the router (not the computer) by USB connection.

You might get to the solution quicker if you answered questions.I restarted the computer today I got a message saying the InstallShield Widard for NETGEAR USB Control Center was not completely installed.  I'm now performing the reinstall again.

Re: ReadySHARE Printer Utility, download, etc.

I’m running two routers. One is from my isp. To it is directly (by cable) attached MY PC and my NETGEAR router.  The Netgear router is directly (by cable) attached to my WIFE'S PC. I’m trying to get both PC’s to be able to see and use our Samsung ML-2850 Series Printer.

Despite installing (and upon startup of MY PC, getting the message “NETGEAR USB Control Center…Control Center installation is incomplete! Please reinstall again.”) and reinstalling ReadySharePrinter_setup_v1.36.exe (and now no longer getting that message):

  • MY PC does not see the Samsung ML-2850 Series Printer.
  • The Samsung ML-2850 Series Printer shows up, but OFFLINE on my WIFE'S PC. (I can send jobs to it that show up in the Queue, but not print.)

Does this clarify anything?

A classic case of "Double NAT". Two routers on a network is an open door for trouble.

For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.

This explains some of the other drawbacks.

What is Double NAT? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

Unless you have specific reasons for using two routers – to create two separate networks for example – it is often easier to use just one router and then to set up the second router as a wifi access point. Netgear advises this, as does just about every site you will visit.

But that then lands you with this:

Disabled Features on the Router when set to AP Mode | Answer | NETGEAR Support

We have no idea which NETGEAR router you have or the brand and model of the ISP's router. So it is impossible to suggest which strategy would be best.

The two main approaches to the NAT problem is ether to put the first router, which is probably a modem/router, into modem only (bridge) mode and to leave the second router to do its job. The alternative is to put the second router into wireless access point (AP) mode so that the first router does its job.

In your case, this mighty not be a good idea because you want to use ReadySHARE for the printer. That might still work in AP mode, but who knows? Then again, the first router may have its equivalent to this feature.

Even without two routers, there is no guarantee that the symptoms you see will go away. But a first move should be to tidy up your network.

You can see why not knowing much about your network makes it impossible to provide detailed answers.

By the way, you have joined in on an existing conversation that may or may not have anything to do with your problems. Indeed, it doesn't seem to be at all related to the first question

There is also a good chance that the official support team is busily monitoring new conversations and may miss your addition to this one.

If you do want help with your problem, check previous stuff that may be related then start your own discussion.

If you do decide to ask a question, you should provide more details and your own version of the information that the forum suggests that you provide. For example, as this is a router, it helps to know what modem you are using and the various things that you have tried to fix the problem.

Re: ReadySHARE Printer Utility, download, etc.

(Note: I have no vested interest asking for help and then trying to keep you in the dark.)

(Looking at the bottom of my router…) I have a

NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S

AC2600 Smart WiFi Router

Model R7800

Q1: Is this the information you need? Is it deficient or is there too much information?

Q2: Why, every time I post a reply to a thread does it require I restate the “Model”? Does ‘the community’ think I might be switching models on each reply?

Q2a: Why, after I’ve filled in the Model, and clicked away from the Body part of the page (to, say, designate Bold format), does the Model name disappear?

“Double NAT”? and the answer to the isp/Netgear router situation

My two-router situation is as follows: WiFi comes from a dish to a Mikrotik hAP AC-Lite WiFi access point. To one of its WiFi access points I’ve connected the NETGEAR machine. The reason I’ve done this is because my wife’s computer is far enough away that it doesn’t get a good WiFi signal from the Mikrotik. It has been getting a great signal from the NETGEAR router—(until, for some reason it didn’t so, for the sake of this printer access problem, I temporarily connected it to the Netgear directly through Ethernet cable—I’ll get back into figuring out the WiFi signal problem after I solve the printer problem).

“By the way…joined in…”?  I started this thread. I thought the ReadySHARE Printer Utility might have something to do with using the Netgear router to share a printer…

I thought that since that initial post contained: “NETGEAR   Nighthawk X4S AC2600 Smart WiFi Router Model R8700”that everyone would understand that I was referring to a NETGEAR   Nighthawk X4S AC2600 Smart WiFi Router Model RC8700.

…and yes, before beginning a post I always check to see if there is any other related ‘previous stuff’.

In the future I will take care to addNETGEAR   Nighthawk X4S AC2600 Smart WiFi Router Model R8700” to each of my posts.

Note: When I clicked on [POST] the "Model (Recommended - Helps the community give the best answers)" field cleared itself!
