Re: Router won't connect to internet (Comcast modem) anymore
I would suggest buying your own cable modem and then you don't have to worry about turning off the wireless. I think the combos are a bad idea anyway. I upgraded (bought my own) to a new docsis 3 modem and never have drops.
Make sure that your modem is listed as compatible with your plan on comcast's website though, or you may have issues.

Re: Router won't connect to internet (Comcast modem) anymore
Searay,
Well that’s pretty hopeless, with my cable modem if there are WAN issues I can log into the modem and at least see what it thinks the problem might be, there’s no reliance on a WAN connection for login. Is this perhaps a peculiarity of recent Arris modems?

Actually, I think it's Comcast denying users another tool to use. For years after a reset or reboot you could log in and watch all the steps complete, which now you cannot after a FW update last year which also disabled the link for RESET FEC Counters too. You would think they would set the modem time correctly too. it's 1 hour off with DST
