I have a new Nighthawk AC1900 Cable Modem Router, model C6900. Can I use a landline with this if I get some sort of adapter? I still have my Cox modem, with a phone line port. Can I use this in any way?

Not according to the setup guide, see http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/C6900/C6900_All_MSOs_QSG_EN.pdf. Need a 'Voice' modem/router.
Ones with a model number that ends with 'V' here, https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/cable-modems-routers/default.aspx.
