Hi, I recently went to a retailer for a Wifi extender, the EX7000, however they supplied me with an R7000, I know very little about networks, however can I use the R7000 as an extender or should I exchange it?

Re: WiFi extenders
If you need wireless repeater functionality (i.e. the extender takes your router's Wi-Fi signal and rebroadcasts it for greater range), then you should probably exchange it. The R7000's repeater functionality is crippled unless you are willing to install 3rd party firmware on it. The R7000 is, however, a great router.
On the other hand, you can use the R7000 as an AP. An AP can also "extend" the range of you Wi-Fi network. The caveat is that you must connect the AP to the main router via Ethernet. If you are unwilling or can't run an Ethernet cable between the two, then go ahead and exchange the R7000 for an EX7000.
