Re: nighthawk access w/o internet

On a router when connected, the router gives your devices an IP address via its DHCP. That creates the LAN. You ISP via the modem provides the Internet signal to the router and it had the WAN IP Address. You do NOT need the Internet signal to the router to access the router. Just use a Browser as mentioned above.

What I don't understand is "ip not responding w/o intrernet connection and login.net requiers internet for dns, right??"? Where did you get that idea from?

"what is the next step? if i use the yellow cable and plug it pc to lan port 1, is that the secret back door?"

Why do you think this is valid? There is no 'secret backdoor'? Use a BROWSER to log into the router.

"i did verified 192.168.1.254 responded to ping when entire lan to wan is up, ..."

Totally confused with that statement? I'm beging to think you are not connected to the router but you modem is also a router? What is your modem make and model? What is the IP Address of your PC?

Re: nighthawk access w/o internet

Once you don't have access to Internet, check your device's IP address. Ping your router and if it's replying, then you should be able to access your router.

Re: nighthawk access w/o internet

In case there is a ISP CPE in front of the router (e.g. a cable modem, a router, ...) which does fall-back to issue RFC1918 private IP addresses - and if this is overlapping with the router LAN subnet - the routers are (unfortunately) overly "smart" and reconfigure the local subnet to some 10.x.x.x /254

Are you using the Netgear Nighthawk app to access the router? If so, you need Internet access.

If you have LAN access, use a Browser to log into the router's IP Address (or ROUTERLOGIN.NET) to reach it and login.

Re: nighthawk access w/o internet

after internet disconnect, i am unable to access router and i need to

my host env is linux/macos, and i dont use cell phone apps.

my apologies or taking so long to test, trip out of town.

what is the next step? if i use the yellow cable and plug  it pc to lan port 1, is that the secret back door?

there has to be a way to access this router w/o internet access.

What, exactly, does "lose access" mean to you?  As usual, showing
actual actions with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.

> Model: R8000P|Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri Band WiFi Router

Is that accurate?  Firmware version?  Connected to what?

> i did verified 192.168.1.254 responded to ping when entire lan to wan
> is up, ...

What's at "192.168.1.254"?  The default LAN IP address of an R8000P
is "192.168.1.1".

> after internet disconnect, i am unable to access router [...]

When you do what?  "unable" is not a useful problem description.  It
does not say what you did.  It does not say what happened when you did
it.  See "As usual, [...]", above.

> what is the next step? [...]

Explain what you're doing, and what happens when you do it?

> [...] if i use the yellow cable and plug it pc to lan port 1, is that
> the secret back door?

Huh?  Which "the yellow cable"?  Where is it connected now?  Why

would you need a "secret back door" to anything?

> there has to be a way to access this router w/o internet access.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  If it were impossible
to communicate with a router until you have an Internet connection, then
how could anyone configure a new router?

> ip not responding w/o intrernet connection [...]

I don't know what that means to you.  "IP" = Internet Protocol.  See
"As usual, [...]", above.

> [...] and login.net requiers internet for dns, right??

No, using "routerlogin.net" does not require Internet access.  A
Netgear router should handle such a reference locally.

Re: nighthawk access w/o internet

the posed queries identified my problem. wrong ip.

firmware V1.4.1.42_1.3.4

routerlogin.net did resolve locally.

further my 'failed access' was something i wasnt expecting to work.

regadrless, my underlying issue is router access when the internet goes down.

again my apologies, i appreciate your understanding
