understanding static ip addresses

Hi.  We have a small Windows 10 network with a Netgear NightHawk x47 R7800 router.  Recently we obtained a static ip address from our Internet Service Provider. To make all the Windows computers use the new static ip address, do we control that at the router or at each pc - or both?  Also, all the computers are using an ethernet (not wi-fi) connection.  It looks like we can enter a static ip address at the router - will that force all the computers to use that static address?  If so, how do I find out the IP Subnet Mask and Gateway IP Address?  Sorry if these questions so basic and simple.  But we have use the new static ip address on all our computers.  Thanks!

Re: understanding static ip addresses

That is the WAN or Internet side of of the router. You need to go to the Setup/LAN setup side of the router if you want to set up IP Address reservations for your connected devices:

Static IP addresses are a bit different, these are set ON the devices them selves, where the IP address reservation is set ON the router.

No tell the router to use that static Internet IP address and leave it to the router to manage your own network.

Re: understanding static ip addresses

Hi.  I may have confused you (or myself).  I don't think we are setting a static ip address for each our computers.  We only need them to use a static ip address when they go to a specific website on the internet,

The website checks the static address and allows certain privileges if the static address has ben recorded and approved.

Does that help?  Thanks you for your reply.

Re: understanding static ip addresses

Just set DHCP or Static IP on the routers Internet setup page. The Router gets the IP address from the MODEM and ISP services. Then this gets converted to a LAN side IP address for each device connected. Each device connected to the router gets a slightly different LAN side IP address. The Router maintains the WAN side IP address is all. Devices connected to the router don't need a static IP address. Just let them get the LAN side IP address from the router and access the internet normally is all that is needed.
