what is the best and fastest harddrive to hookup to the r9000 usb 3.o or eathernet to use it as a plex server thanks

No router works very good as a NAS. It really would be better to buy a dedicated NAS. Synology makes good NAS units.
And here is another one for $50 more. But no play capability.

You would bettet put a 10gb NAS with the device!

I agree the router works well as a NAS but ther is no redundancy on a single drive and there is a lower capacity!
