Screenshot 2023-09-01 174710.pngThe subscription I will make will be 1Gbps, but in the future it will be expected up to 10, if I want to make a network with switches that adapt to the maximum speed, what do you recommend?

XS505M and GS110MX

Be aware that the Orbi AC series won't support any WAN to LAN speeds beyond 1Gb. Only the Orbi 960 series currently supports WAN to LAN speeds 10Gb on WAN and 2.5G on LAN.

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

At the moment I would use 1Gbps fiber with the operator's modem connected to the Orbi RBK50 router and the latter connected to the 8-port switch.
Now I would like two switches that support different speeds so that later I would only change the router and the satellite.

One last question, the installer who should wire my home told me that it is enough to use a utp cable together with the electrical sockets, what do I do, do I ask him to use a shielded cable?

Yes future proof with CAT6A STP cable. UTP is ok but for higher speed support 2.5 and beyond, you'll want CAT# A STP in place at the ready for when 2.5 and 10Gb LAN speeds get supported. The RS700 was announced that it supports 10Gb WAN and LAN sides.

Nope, not every switch with some Web UI for configuration does make up a Managed Switch. Netgear marketing does still define it misleadingly like "Enable network configuration and management at the price point of Unmanaged Switches"

This description makes more sense, yes.

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

Given the prices, I guess I'll have the 6a stp cable installed and I'll buy the two switches GS-308 and GS305.

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

Those will work find until your ready to upgrade.

I recommend getting the non (E) versions of the switches.

I found a bit cheaper pricing by getting used or refurb'd equipment.

Good Luck.

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

Disputable if link speeds to drive AX3000 systems where already the 5 GHz AP part can reach a throughput well and ways beyond of what a 1GbE can offer  While it's meaningful to have such fast wireless connections for the wireless backhaul - for deploying a wired backhaul not having at least 2.5 GbE available, it's a waste of technology.

Yes, I do  understand why Netgear has opted for just a 1 GbE: Cost!

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

One question, my PC's LAN card is gigabit, if I use a 2.5Gbps switch, will the speed always be 1Gbps even if I have 2.5Gbps fibre?

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

For this particular PC, and this network connection, yes.

Reality will be in the 940...950 Mbps due to protocol overhead.

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

so in addition to multigig switches I should use lan cards that support 2.5Gbps.

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

I was offered 2.5Gbps fiber for download and 1 Gbps for upload, what do I need besides 2.5Gbps switches bearing in mind that I have a gigabit Orbi?

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

Since the Orbi 50 series doesn't support anything over 1000Mpbs WAN and LAN, you'll not get 2.5Gb from the ISP ever if you use this model router. Would not benefit you with having 2.5Gb LAN speeds unless you want to prepare the LAN side for higher speeds with PC cards and multi gig switches on the LAN side.

To get ISP speeds from the WAN side you'll need a modem/ONT and a wifi router that supports multi gig speeds on both WAN and LAN side beyong 1000Mpbs.

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

The provider sent me the following note:
The performances indicated - up to 2.5 overall in download - refer to the maximum theoretical values achievable, divided between Ethernet ports (4 ports at 1 Gbit/s) and WiFi network (Wi-Fi 6 standard, up to 3.6 Gbit /s)

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

Thats over all combined speeds. One single device will never see anything past 1GB using the Orbi 50 series router system.

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

So is the orbi 50 any good?

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

It's good and up to about 900Mpbs range on ethernet. Wifi you may see up to 500-600Mpbs depending on wifi device support and design.

Re: Mixed Lan with orbi AC3000

the telephone company offered me 2.5Gbps fibre, I would need a 2.5 router and a switch compatible with 2.5Gb speed, what do you recommend, I have already purchased the spool of cat cable. 6a u/ftp.

https://www.netgear.com/home/discover/wifi7

Or https://www.netgear.com/home/wifi/mesh/rbke962/

Both have 10Gb WAN and LAN ports. The Orbi has 2.5Gb LAN port so you'd seen 2.5Gb from the WAN side to the LAN side.
