OS is Windows 10.

Is this ethernet connected or wireless?

Did you log in to the RBRs web page and look under Advanced/Security/Access controls to see if it's blocked here?

Let us know if you have Access Controls or maybe Smart Parental Controls or Circle enabled.

Just says "allowed devices not connected" which is ~45.  only 2 devices remain connected.

The Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab, Security Menu Access Control contains three tables:

  • Every device is currently connected to the Orbi system (both wired and WiFi).  When Access Control is Enabled, this tables identifies which devices are Allowed and which are Blocked.  (Blocked meaning they cannot communicate.)
  • The second table is Allowed devices which are not connected.  Orbi maintains a record of every device which has been connected to that it will recognize when the device becomes connected again and know how to treat it.
Devices in this table are not connected to the network.
  • The third table is Blocked devices which are also not currently connected.

The only way to move a device from table 2 to table 1 is to connect it to the network.

I have only the 1st and 2nd tables. Several of the items listed in the 2nd table are very close to the router and, one would think, should be easily connected.  Some items are named "Unknown:.  Intruders?

Be sure to disable any MAC Address randomizers on phones and pads while at home:

As this will cause "unknown" devices to appear in the table.

So, two different issues:

  • The Access Control page shows some devices as "Not Connected" when they should be:
    • Do they not appear on the Attached Devices page?
    • If you physically use them, do they function?
  • There are "unknown" devices, probably with MAC addresses that do not match any known device.
As @FURRYe38 commented, this is a common issue when devices are set to create random MAC addresses when connected to WiFi networks.  (I HATE this feature.)  Turn it off when connected to the home WiFi network.
