Re: VPN
And what is the make/model of what the RBR50 is plugged into? That will be key to the solution here.

Do you have a DDNS setup in Orbi?

- Are you trying remote management from a browser or from the Orbi app?
- If from browser, is Remote Management enabled under >> ADVANCED >> Advanced Setup >> Remote Management?
- If from Orbi, is Remote Management enabled in the app under >> Menu >> SETTINGS >> Remote Management?

What do you get when you check the status of the DDNS as follows:

Re: VPN
Ok...
I recommend before you start any other troubleshooting, you update to the current (.32) firmware which has improved backhaul reliability.
The trick on the upgrade is that your RBR50 has to be updated to an intermediate firmware version (2.2.1.212) before going final with the .32 version.
Here is the link for the intermediate firmware:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/34qdnx73uikusf7/RBR50-V2.2.1.212.zip?dl=0
The final version (2.3.0.32) is found here:
https://kb.netgear.com/000060603/RBR50-RBS50-Firmware-Version-2-3-0-32
You will flash both the satellites as well as the router.
Recommend you be connected to your router via ethernet (rather than wireless) to do the flashing.
Also, flash the router to the intermediate version, then after reboot, flash each satellite to the final version and then flash the RBR50 to the final version (in that order).

Re: VPN
Great that Remote Management works now.
For the VPN access, have you tried from a Smart Phone? The certificate issues are usually not seen in Smart Phones.
For VPN from computer it's a bit more complicated with certificates, please have a look at this post: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/OpenVPN-warning-No-server-certificate-verification-method-has/...
