Hi:
Recently got a project relate with EOL switch S3300 for mDNS service.
It seems mDNS didn't run through uplink to other switches.
I googled and found there seems to be a firmware 6.6.4.29 solved this issue, but not been released.
I wonder if anyone can share this version ?
or any alternative way to configure for mDNS 224.0.0.251 to go through uplink to other switches ?
Currently IGMP snooping is enabled for IPTV channels and only 1 flat VLAN.
Sincerely,
Billy Lee

Re: GS728TXP (S3300-28X-PoE+) EOL Bonjour/mDNS issue
As the community is unable to reply here (and the Netgear reps tend to stay the same, or simply fail to locate or allocate internal resources): Open a ticket on https://www.netgear.com/about/contact-us/ - call (or email) them, whatever is available in your market. Sad but true.

Re: GS728TXP (S3300-28X-PoE+) EOL Bonjour/mDNS issue
Hi
Just upgrade 2 of switches to test.
Found ineresting issue that it does forward mDNS now to uplink, but only for ipv6 address, not for ipv4 mDNS multicast.
Current setup is flat VLAN 1, with IGMP snooping ENABLE/check IGMP header ENABLE.
No Quierier or mRoute enabled.
Is there any setting is required to pass ipv4 mDNS 224.0.0.251 multicast to uplink ?

Billy Lee

Re: GS728TXP (S3300-28X-PoE+) EOL Bonjour/mDNS issue
Hello @schumaku,
Usually for a Netgear product that is EOL, there is no guarantee Engineering team are to release an official firmware. It will be best to open a support case for the specific device so Engineering can build a firmware same as what was provided on this thread.
Can you try to enable mrouter on the uplink port and see if the mdns will pass?
Have a lovely day,

Re: GS728TXP (S3300-28X-PoE+) EOL Bonjour/mDNS issue
Hi @ReneD :
Sorry for the delay response.
Yes, I finally solve the issue, it was combination of several parts need to be configured/upgrade.
1.
I did get "official" 6.6.4.29 firmware from NetGear vendor, and upgrade all 10 S3300 to it, but still not passing mDNS.
2.
Checked setting, and configure all S3300 with:
A. Switching/Multicast/IGMP Snooping/IGMP Snooping Configuration:
- IGMP Snooping Status : enable
- Validate IGMP IP header: enable
B. Switchig/Multicast/IGMP Snooping/IGMP Snooping Interface Configuration:
- Enable Admin Mode to all interfaces
C. Switching/Multicast/IGMP Snooping/IGMP Snooping VLAN Configuration
- Enable Admin Mode to target VLAN
D. Switching/Multicast/IGMP Snooping/Multicast Router Configuration
- Enable Admin Mode on the Uplink interface
E. Switching/Multicast/IGMP Snooping Querier/Querier Configuration
- Enable Querier Admin Mode
- Leave all other default as 0.0.0.0/2/60.125
Also for their core M4300:
A. Switching/Multicast/IGMP Snooping/Configuration/IGMP Snooping Configuration
- Enable Admin Mode
- Enable Validate IGMP IP header
- Enable Proxy Querier Mode
B. Switching/Multicast/IGMP Snooping/Interface Configuration/IGMP Snooping Interface Configuration
- Enable Admin Mode to all interfaces
C. Switching/Multicast/IGMP Snooping/Multicast Router Configuration/Multicast Router Configuration
- Enable Admin Mode for all Edge Switch/Server Interfaces.
D. Switching/Multicast/IGMP Snooping/Querier Configuration/Querier Configuration
- Enable Querier Admin Mode
- Leave all other default as 0.0.0.0/2/60.125
E. Switching/Multicast/IGMP Snooping/Querier VLAN Configuration/IGMP Snooping Querier VLAN Configuration
- Enable Admin Mode on target VLAN
After all these, then all Casting devices connected on edge S3300 switches, their mDNS can be forward to all edges/core and servers/PC connected to edge/core switches.
Appreiciated with the help and effort, this is really an dated bug that just hit the project from nowhere, but now it has a solution and verified working !
Please let me know if more configration I can provide to make it more visible if someone else has similar issue.
Sincerely,
Billy Lee
